Controls[edit]
- Joystick: Use the joystick to guide the player throughout each stage. Press left or right to make him face either direction, and hold the joystick to make him run. Press up or down when near a rope to make the player climb up or descend down the rope. Press down when simply standing to crouch.
- Attack: Press the attack button to make the player swing his diskarmor forward. The diskarmor will travel a distance, which can be extended by powerups, and then return to the player without the Star Power, or continue to travel forward with the Star Power. Press attack while holding down to swing the diskarmor low to the ground, and press attack while holding up to swing the diskarmor in a backward arc over your head without the Star Power, or straight overhead with the Star Power.
- Jump: Press the jump button to make the player jump into the air. Use this to leap over obstacles or oncoming enemies. If the player jumps on the backs of certain enemies without the Tiger Power, he will stun them and render them harmless for a short period of time. If you possess the Tiger Power, jumping on most enemies will instantly kill them.
- 1-2 Players: Press either button to begin a one or two player alternating game.
Player[edit]
You control the wielder of the diskarmor weapon throughout the game. You can run left or right, crouch down, jump up, and climb ropes. Your primary means of attack is the diskarmor, a weapon which at it's lowest power can be launched forward a short distance before it winds itself back up to you. As you collect different power tiles, the range and power of this weapon can be increased. Alternatively, you can jump on many enemies. Without the Tiger Power, jumping on them will merely stun them for a short period of time. However, if you have the Tiger Power, jumping on them will almost assuredly destroy them. Either way, you will bounce back up in the air every time you jump on an enemy. The player will not survive a hit with any enemy or their projectiles. One hit or fall in to a pit means a loss of life. You normally begin the game with two extra lives, with opportunities to earn more by reaching certain point levels, and collecting 1-up items, but this can be operator controlled.
Temple & Rank[edit]
A temple is found at the end of each round. Once you reach this temple, you are awarded bonus points. Additionally, the statue or icon displayed in the temple provides you with a clue as to what you may expect in the next round. For example, the statue in the first temple indicates that you can discover a hidden crash tile somewhere in the second stage.
- Repulse Bonus: You get 200 points for each enemy destroyed, up to a maximum of 12,800 points.
- Rank Bonus: You earns points based on your current rank; see below.
- Timer Bonus: You get 100 points for each remaining second.
Rank is based entirely on the number of kills you've made in total per rank, regardless of death. After you get a promotion, the number of kills resets to zero. Stripes are gained for additional kills, ultimately ending up at one stripe per 50 kills. If you kill an enemy with the Cross Power's force field (i.e. you run into it, not shoot it) you get the points but nothing counts towards your rank. If you die and continue you keep your rank, but not your score. If the arcade operator sets the bonus lives to any other values other than the default 50k/200k/500k, the amount of enemies that you need to kill is effectively doubled.
Note that once you get the "BEST" rank, your rank actually continues to increase by 1 stripe/1000 pts for every 50 kills. Although the ranking system continues, there are no new badges. The rank badges loops around on the high score table, and it will display the first rank onwards.
