Mega Blast is a horizontal scrolling shooter arcade game that was released by Taito Corporation in 1989; it runs upon that company's F2 hardware, and the players must use an 8-way joystick to take control of a red-lined (for 1P) or blue-lined (for 2P) ship with a single button to make them fire shots (in four directions through their options) at the enemies (one of which happens to be a Sinclair C5). This game was also included in the 2 compilation of Taito Memories II Gekan, in 2007.

As in Taito's earlier horizontal scrolling shooter Exzisus (which was only released in Japan two years previously), only the major enemies in this game are named so this guide will refer to the minor ones as "Type X enemies", based on the order in which they first appear; certain enemies shall also leave device packs behind when killed and by collecting them the players shall increase the power of their ships' (and their options') shots (red device packs are heat laser bullets while blue ones are thunder beam bullets, green ones are shields, and white ones are reflection energy balls). However, it is not advisable to kill enemies who are flying towards you from behind with backward shots, because the device pack the last one leaves behind may be scrolled off the screen before you have a chance to collect it - and this means that it's better to either move down and kill them off with upward shots or move up and kill them off with downward ones depending on the environment of the current round.
