Character Statistics[edit]

Level[edit]

Every time your character gains levels, many of your character's attributes increase. To increase in level, you must defeat enough monsters and earn experience points. Once you have obtained enough experience points to rise to the next level, you must visit the Holy Temple in the Forest City, where your experience points will be deducted and your character will be promoted to the next level. Note that once your character reaches level 20, the rate of stat increase reduces. In the original game, the number of experience points you need to reach the next level was determined by the following formula: (current level)2 × 100. These values were reduced in Super Hydlide.

Life[edit]

This is the measure of how much health your character has. If it ever reaches 0, your characters dies and the game is over. Unlike previous versions of Hydlide, your character does not automatically recover health when standing still. To recover health, you must cast the Cure spell, use Medicine items, or sleep at an Inn.

STR/Strength[edit]

This is your physical strength. It determines the success rate of your attacks, and how much weight your character can hold. As your strength increase, you can do more damage, wield heavier weapons, and carry more equipment.

MP/Magic Power[edit]

In order to cast spells, you must have enough magic power. Early in the game, you will not be able to cast many spells before you run out of power. In order to recover magic power, you must use the Herbs item, or rest at an Inn. The Move spell can instantly return you to an Inn so you can rest, so be careful not to run out of magic before you cast Move.

MF/Mind Force[edit]

MF can also stand for "Moral Fiber". It represents your alignment, ranging from 0 (evil) to 100 (good). High Mind Force will grant you the benefit of decreased prices at shops, while a low Mind Force will see you paying above sticker price. Your Mind Force is determined by the enemies that you defeat. For every 10 evil monsters you defeat, your Mind Force will increase 1 point. However, strike down just one good monster, and you lose 20 Mind Force points.

EXP/Experience[edit]

As with most RPGs, your character earns experience points for defeating monsters. In this game, experience points aren't just for reaching the next level. They can also be traded at magic schools in order to learn new spells. Remember that your character doesn't level up automatically like in many other games. You must visit the Holy Temple in order to exchange points for a new level.

Charm[edit]

This represents how charismatic your character is. Like Mind Force, it affects how much money you ultimately pay for items at the store. Unlike Mind Force, it also affects how much you receive for selling items.

AP/Attack point[edit]

This stat is your actual attack power. The higher it is, the more damage you do with your attacks. It is a function of how your strength contributes to your raw unarmed attack power, along with the attack power of the weapon you are wielding. However, this stat is impacted if you try to wield a weapon that is heavier than what you can handle. It also decreases whenever your character becomes tired.

AC/Armor class[edit]

This stat is your defensive power. The higher it is, the less damage you will take when you get attacked. It is a function of how your dexterity contributes to your raw unequipped defensive power, along with the defense power of the armor you are wearing. Unlike attack points, nothing can negatively impact this stat.

AGI/Agility[edit]

This is your character's speed. It represents your ability to fend off enemy attacks. As you increase in levels, and as your dexterity increases, you become more likely to avoid attacks from lower level enemies.

DEX/Dexterity[edit]

This stat represents your hand dexterity. The higher it is, the more likely you are to successfully disarm traps found in certain treasure chests. However, it's also possible to cast a spell which can disarm traps.

INT/Intelligence[edit]

This stat has an impact on the effect of the magic you cast. The duration of the spell will depend on how high your Intelligence is. It's effect range from how much health you recover when you cast Cure, to how successful you are when you cast a spell to disarm treasure chest traps.

Luck[edit]

Luck very specifically impacts how likely your stats are to increase when your character rises in level. If your luck is higher, you have a better chance of having a substantial boost to your stats when you reach the next level. Having high luck is key to having a stronger character by the end of the game.
