Legacy support info[edit]

My apologies to E-Wario, I just thought this kind of information should be up for discussion before we blanket delete it. I haven't done the research, but if the info reported by the original author is correct, it would be interesting for players to know how to continue playing it. The question is, do we want to be a resource for that kind of information or not. I'm neutral on the subject for now, I'd like to hear what others think. Procyon 23:10, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Interesting point. I guess a link to fan patches would be useful to players.--E-123Wario54The Temple of TalkFFI black mage (8-bit).gif 02:03, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
I'm for it, since it has to do with helping people play the game. As long as it isn't blatantly advertising someone's private server and isn't about pirating the game, I think it's fine. A paragraph on the main page or, if there is enough of a community built around it, an appendix page seem appropriate. In this current case, it's more like an extended description of an external link, which we currently allow on the main page (the link, not necessarily the paragraph). — najzereT 17:40, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
I have an issue with the term "abandonware" since it's still their property even if they don't actively use it... I agree that this should be reduced to just a link. -- Prod (Talk) 18:08, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
While "abandonware" and procurement may generally be off-scope, getting the game to run properly may be considered in-scope when it requires more than basic troubleshooting (but doesn't yet require emulators). I've seen more than enough games that don't like running on modern systems, simply crashing or quitting without warning, that advanced digging becomes necessary. When I encounter and solve a problem, it gets placed in the "Getting started" section, although this isn't frequent enough to make StrategyWiki a reference site. --Sigma 7 22:10, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
