Naming convention[edit]

Before I start on actual guide content, there's something I'd like some input on. The recent Hitman trilogy of games can cause some confusion with previous games in the series due to their very simple names. Officially the game names are stylized in ALL CAPS, and rely on the fact that the actual first 3 games all have a subtitle to distinguish themselves.

Currently I'm using a mix of 2 naming conventions with HITMAN being called Hitman (2006) and HITMAN 2 and 3 being referenced in capitals. Should I go ahead and change all instances of Hitman (2006) to HITMAN instead? My main concern is that it would be awkward to redirect to and would probably warrant some disambiguation pages. The official website only seems to talk about HITMAN 3 currently, so yes, that should probably be named in capitals. {{Hitman}} should provide enough clarification regardless of the name chosen, so some redirects should be the extent of any disambiguation. Are you sure they didn't use uppercase for the original games as well? Also, why are all three ToCs being put in one?-- Prod (talk) 16:55, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
I was going off the naming convention from the Steam store and the Hitman fandom wiki, where having the clear distinction would be necessary, but you're right that past games used all caps in their names as well. After doing some deeper digging I found the dev studio's descriptions of the first three games, which refer to them in by normal capitalized names (eg. Hitman: Contracts). On news sites and more casual fan discussion there isn't a strict naming convention since people can infer from context.
My reason for combining all 3 games under one ToC is because with the exception of minor changes, all 3 games have extremely similar gameplay and progression, with each new game practically being more of a level pack than a traditional sequel. HITMAN 2 and HITMAN 3 also include all content from previous games in the trilogy as legacy packs, with HITMAN 3 including ways to carry over progress from HITMAN 2. I only own HITMAN 3, but I can access all the levels in the ToC and most of the missions, with very few exceptions like the holiday-themed bonus missions. T.testLP(talk) 21:26, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
Good find! That's a really cool feature, and similar to Wizardry III: Legacy of Llylgamyn (which I was just recently reading about), but better. Seems like the merged ToC is probably the best option. -- Prod (talk) 02:25, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
