Our own pages?[edit]

I was thinking we should probably have our own Pokedex, but of course still link to Bulbapedia (a better source currently) from the list itself, then later from the pages themselves. I think that way strategywiki can become as good as possible (by having red links ready to be filled) but still providing a source to the readers looking for more information. -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 17:28, 8 October 2006 (CDT)

I cleaned it up for you, with the red links back in while still linking to bulbapedia. I would be against having too big a pokedex, perhaps only going as far as the Shinou Pokemon pokedex. Maintaining a list that big gets tedious and boring (check out MapleStory Monsters). But I do agree that we at least need something, it's very relevant to a guide. -- Prod 18:31, 8 October 2006 (CDT)
I think having the red links will spur on someone who is determined enough to tackle something like this. I'm not the one, but I don't think having red links (while still having the bulbapedia links) is bad at all :). -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 20:30, 8 October 2006 (CDT)
Some people will just come, see a bunch of red links, add maybe a sentence here or there, and then leave, with no overall structure, or perhaps may feel that this site is incomplete. Apart from that, it introduces a lot of work, with very little benefit (the stuff is already easily accessible). -- Prod 20:43, 8 October 2006 (CDT)
Good points... that make sense. Alright, I'm for just having the Bulbapedia links :). -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 21:51, 8 October 2006 (CDT)

Hmmm[edit]

So, what's the deal with linking to the pokemon inside the wiki? Just outbound link to Bulbapedia, or just point to this dex page or what? I'm going to start getting back into the Competitive Guide and cleaning it up while wikifying it a bit more. --Sekoku 21:46, 3 November 2006 (CST)

I think this is just here for completeness. I would say link to bulbapedia (using Bulbapedia:Main Page) if you need to refer to a specific pokemon and their skills (in depth info). Link to this page if you need to talk about something very basic (like their numbering, element, etc.). -- Prod (Talk) 21:56, 3 November 2006 (CST)

Sortable Dex[edit]

Do you think it would be easier to navigate the pokédex if it was sortable (say by number, alphabetically, type of pokémon)? Right now, all we have is a huge list, and it would look better as a table (could put pics in too). Unfortunately, I have no clue how to make a table sortable, is there a way and do you like the idea? --Ryan SchmidtTalk - Contribs 16:45, 17 February 2007 (CST)

I've converted it to table form, just needs all the numbers added in (can't do it with regular expressions). The table is already in order by number. -- Prod (Talk) 17:03, 17 February 2007 (CST)
Once our MediaWiki version is updated again (it's on echelon's to do list) this will be possible, see this page for an example of the sort of neat stuff that's possible. All it would take is adding the additional columns appropriately. Heck, we could even include the regional Dexes. GarrettTalk 18:43, 17 February 2007 (CST)
How would we use the sortable class? I can't find it on wikipedia, and it isn't working here (at least not on monobook), ideas? -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 21:31, 27 February 2007 (CST)
I was wondering that myself. It's not in any of the usual places, and yet it's not on the extensions list. They're running 1.10 alpha now but I'm sure they had this feature back at 1.9 too. You could probably ask on IRC or something. GarrettTalk 22:05, 27 February 2007 (CST)
It's here. Can you get it to work? :-D -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 23:13, 27 February 2007 (CST)
Should just be a matter of including it on MediaWiki:Monobook.js and MediaWiki:Bluecloud.js (and uploading it to our own servers, MediaWiki:Wikibits.js perhaps), though I'm leaving it to someone more experienced. -- Prod (Talk) 23:30, 27 February 2007 (CST)

Why did you change the nidoran's ♀ and ♂ to ?. --Ryan SchmidtTalk - Contribs 18:23, 17 February 2007 (CST)

Oh, missed those. My text editor can't handle unicode and converts it to ? marks. -- Prod (Talk) 18:39, 17 February 2007 (CST)
I'm gonna have to rework the type thing in order to get it to sort correctly. But before I do so, what would "correctly" be? Alphabetical order by type name (Bug < Dark < Flying < Grass < Rock ...) seems the obvious choice, but should dual types be organized along with their singles, or seperate? For example, should it be: Bug < Bug + Dark < Bug + Flying < Flying < Grass ... Or should it be: Bug < Flying < Grass < ... < Bug + Dark < Bug + Flying < Flying + Water ? Thoughts? -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 16:20, 8 March 2007 (CST)

Bulbasaur[edit]

In my Ruby, I've got a bulbasaur and it's Grass/Poison, I did a quick search on the silver Pokédex for grass/Poison Pokémon and Bulbasaur came up, I'll check one of the 1st gen games now.--Rocky Rally-X Rock.png (Talk - Contributions) 01:55, 28 May 2007 (CDT)

In blue it's Grass/Poison as well.-Rocky Rally-X Rock.png (Talk - Contributions) 02:01, 28 May 2007 (CDT)
It also says so in Bulbapedia and Wikipedia.--Rocky Rally-X Rock.png (Talk - Contributions) 02:02, 28 May 2007 (CDT)
