Image categorisation

Okay, the images you uploaded have been renamed and categorized, so take a look at them to see how to do it. By the way, one of the requirements for promoting a guide to completion stage 5 is that all images are named and categorized properly, so you might as well just do it while you upload them, because you'll be told to do it anyway if you're planning on nominating your guide for featured. I don't understand why you continue to make more work for everyone with your image uploads. You clearly know how to upload a new version of an image, yet we now have a bunch of orphaned duplicates because you've uploaded to different file names. In addition, you've changd the established naming to Chips Challenge without an apostrophe, which will only serve to confuse anyone editing the page. Also, you still haven't properly categorized your images. I guess I need to spell it out, because you don't want to read our policy or look at the images I was nice enough to categorize for you. Along with an image category you also need to put the guide-specific image category so that all the images for a specific guide can be found in one place. This means you need to put [[Category:Chip's Challenge images]] on images you upload for the Chip's Challenge guide. You need to go back an add this category to your recent uploads. In addition, your images aren't Maps, they're Screenshots. A map gives you an alternate view of a location, different than the normal one seen during gameplay. It's not that big of distinction, but if you had simply looked at the image fixes I made, you could have just copy/pasted the correct categories. - najzere^T 20:21, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Okay, let's start over. I see you are trying to upload correctly, so this is just a miscommunication. Let me explain everything I think you should know about images, and I know you'll put the knowledge to good use. First we name the image correctly, with the name of the game, followed by a word or two to serve as a little description. You are doing this just fine now.

Second, we add categories to the images. You know how to put these on, as you have categorized them as "Maps" in the past, and I see from your recent uploads that you also understand to categorize by the guide-specific category, i.e. "Chip's Challenge images". Now you just need to put them both together so that the images have the normal image category and the guide-specific category. You can put multiple categories on an image.

Third, if you need to use a different image, but it can still keep the same name, then you should upload a new version. You already know how to do this, so no problem there.

Fourth, if you want to rename an image, then you use the "Move" tab at the top of the image page, and choose the new name to move it to when you get the option. This creates a redirect at the page where the image used to be, so go back to that page, and use the "Edit" tab at the top of the page to go in and remove the redirect and replace it with a {{delete}} template. This will alert administrators that you're no longer using that page and it needs to be cleaned up.

Lastly, if you need to add a category to an existing image, you do not have to upload a new version of the file. In fact this doesn't work anyway, as anything you put in the summary field when uploading a new version is solely for the edit summary. To add or change a category, use the "Edit" tab at the top of the image page, and make any changes just like you would on a normal guide page.

I realize that this all can be confusing, and I want to thank you for attempting to make the changes, which let me know you weren't just ignoring our notes to you. Image naming

Hi Andrew. I appreciate all of the maps that you are uploading, but unfortunately, we need to change the names. All of the images should have the name, or at the very least, the initials of the game that it comes from. There might be another game that uses the term lesson, so we need to distinguish between the game that your uploading, and another game with similar terminology. Thanks again for your help. I guess you misunderstood me. I didn't mean to add the game title to the description, I mean it needs to go in the filename. For example, the proper name for lesson1.gif is Chips_Challenge_lesson1.gif. So from now on, please prepend "Chips_Challenge" to the front of each image you upload. Don't give up

Hi Andrew. I know we have a handful of guidelines here, but aside from image naming and categorization, you're doing a great job, so keep up the good work. It's really appreciated, and once you have the image stuff down, you'll be well on your way. It's just important for us since we have substantially more images than the average wiki (I believe) so keeping them maintained is important for finding and stripping duplicates or unused images. It helps keep the size of our database down. But you pretty much have free reign over how you want to layout the walkthrough info. Thanks again for your help. Procyon 21:58, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Remaining image issues

I see you've uploaded another set of images, but you haven't categorized them properly (Maps or Screenshots, it's your choice). In addition, you still haven't gone back and categorized your previous uploads. Please fix your images before uploading any more. - najzere^T 22:48, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing all those! In response to your edit summary on the file you marked for deletion: yes, that's how you do it, thanks again! Guide-specific images category

Hi, just a couple notes on making and using guide-specific images categories. First, the game's full name should be used, i.e. Category:Chip's Challenge Level Pack 2 images, not Category:CCLP2 images. Second, images should only be categorized by the game where that image is found. This means images on the Chip's Challenge Level Pack 2 guide should be in the Chip's Challenge Level Pack 2 images category, not on both that one and the Chip's Challenge images category. You can tell which to use by looking at the base page name that the file is on, i.e. Chip's Challenge Level Pack 2/Levels 1-20 has a base page name of Chip's Challenge Level Pack 2. Lastly, don't forget to put [[Category:Guide-specific images]] on the image category to categorize it as such. Thanks, - najzere^T 23:33, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
