Challenges are a set of runs with prechosen characters and special conditions. This mode is unlocked by completing a successful run without resting once, and completing these runs will unlock further rewards.

You start this run with the Mind Drain spell and a random spell, but also have the "Ghastly Presence" status, which prevents all offensive actions. Unlocks the Insomnia status upon completion.

Wrong Book![edit]

Replaces Toshiaki's Necronomicon item with the Cook Book item, which has a 10% chance of giving you a random food item when investigating a location.
Mimi's Little Project[edit]

Before starting a mystery, you must choose one of the following projects to perform on yourself (you do not have to do so when all mysteries are finished and you go to the Lighthouse):
- Replace the liquid in your eyeball with a saline solution: -1 Perception, -10% chance to all combat actions
- Stab an icepick through the nose to disable the pain receptors in your brain: -1 damage taken, -2 Knowledge
- Forcibly rewire your vestibular system: -1 Luck, fail all event checks
- Implant a second human heart: -1 Charisma, +5% Doom
- Break your arm to form a new joint: -1 Strength, slower combat actions
- Sell your kidney to finance your project: +1 Fund, -3 maximum Stamina
- Cut off your kneecap: -2 Dexterity, -1 item slot
- Graft bear claws to your toes: +2 Kick damage, gain a random injury upon beginning a mystery
Unlocks the Holy Glyph spell upon completion.
