Day Two: Court Mode

Before the Trail

Max seems very nervous and wants milk. He wonders if he should fly in the courtroom to wow the crowd. After asking him no, Max asks you if you could do so. It's impossible (though you like the idea).

Von Karma says her loss at the Kurain Case didn't count and is certain you will lose this time. She calls Gumshoe to the stand and has him describe the events.

1. The night of the crime, snow was falling until 9:40 PM, making it extremely cold out.
2. All of the circus performers gathered in the Big Top to practice their routines.
3. The practice session broke up around 10 PM.
4. The murder itself took place in the plaza in front of the lodging house at 10:15 PM.
5. The victim was found bent over a wooden box dead as a doornail.
6. The cause of death was blunt force trauma that snapped a vertebrae in his neck.

Gumshoe Presents Russel's Autopsy Report, which will be added to the Court Record.

Details of the Events: Cross-Examination

Press all of Gumshoe's statements:

1st statement: There was a blizzard outside. It all stopped at the night of the murder. Something in this must be strange.

2nd statement: Everyone you meet there was practicing, Regina, Moe, Ben & Trilo, etc. In the investigation, Gumshoe met Money the Monkey, who took his wristwatch.

3rd statement: Everyone went to places not suspicious. Gumshoe says Max and Russel were talking in his office for salary. (Though you already know Max was asking for Regina's hand for marriage)

4th statement: Gumshoe says there is a witness, but von Karma whips him before he could go any further.

5th statement: Gumshoe says the box was heavier than it look, and it is also locked. The Wooden Box will be added to the Court Record. You are given a choice of questions, ask About the contents. Gumshoe says it was locked, so they took it back at the station and crack it open. In there, they found a bottle filled with pepper. Pepper? What meaning does this tell? The Small Seasoning Bottle will be added to the Court Record.

6th statement: Gumshoe says the murder weapon was a blunt object. The weapon is still missing and police are searching for it.

After pressing all of the statements, von Karma calls another witness to the stand, Benjamin Woodman.

1. Once practice was over, I left the tent with the stooge... I mean clown.
2. Once we got to the lodging house, I ditched him and went over to the plaza.
3. That's when I saw Max heading towards the scene of the crime.
4. He was the only one heading that way... How could that punk not be the killer!?
5. Then the police showed up, and took magic boy away.

The reason Trilo recognized Max is that he was wearing his, silk hat, clock, and white roses when he passed by. If Ben and Trilo "ditched" the clown, could Moe be the murder? Von Karma reminds the court that a silk hat was found at the scene, so it would be impossible.

What You Witnessed: Cross-Examination

Press Trilo's 4th statement. Trilo knows he saw Max, and only Max. When given a choice, choose Ben only saw Max?. You suspect Trilo was waiting outside for someone else. When asked who, Present Russel Berry's Profile. If Trilo was outside noticing Max, he should have seen Russel as well, because both Russel and Max were at the his office before the crime occurred. Von Karma, however, says you heard it from the defendant. If he said he was at the office, then why did Trilo see him outside the tent before the murder occurred? This incriminates your claim. You move on with the cross-examination.

Press on Trilo's 5th statement. Both Ben and Trilo were outside the tent. but for what reason? It was very cold outside. Phoenix suspects they could be waiting for someone. When asked who, Present Regina Berry's Profile. They were probably outside, waiting for Regina, and only or Regina. They only saw Max, but even if he did in front of them, they would've ignored them. Furthermore, if they saw Max and only Max heading towards the crime scene during the 30 minute wait ending with Max's arrest, it would've been been impossible for Russel to be killed by that time, because they never saw Russel.

At this point, Trilo admits that he was waiting for Regina. He wanted to propose to her. The puppet testifies about the proposal.

3. I kept it in my pocket, waiting for the chance to propose and give it to her.

About the Proposal: Cross-Examination

Press on Trilo's 2nd statement. Trilo says that "something" is the engagement ring. Von Karma wants to move on, but Push on anyway. Trilo will revise his statement.

• I planned on giving an engagement ring to Regina...

Ignore this statement and Press on the 5th. Trilo says he is still planning to give it to her.

Present the Ring on the same statement. Trilo instantly recognizes it. If Trilo says he has the ring in his pocket, then why do you have it now? Trilo admits that Money the Monkey stole it, since he loves shiny things. Ben says Money stole it right after Max passed by. Ben chased after it, but Money got away.

What you just heard proves something, when asked what, choose Ben's testimony has a flaw. Trilo says he waiting a while after Max passed them, but now he is saying that right after Max passed, Ben chased after Money. As he does that, there was no one else to watch the plaza, so it is possible that someone else went to the crime scene other then Max.

Trilo will testify once more about what he saw.

1. I'll give you that I was waiting that night for Regina.
2. But that doesn't change the fact that I saw Max at the plaza that night!
3. He showed up after I had been waiting there for about five minutes.
4. I said "good evening" to him, but he didn't even acknowledged my presence.
5. I'm absolutely sure it was him! I saw Maximillion Galactica at the crime scene!!
6. There's no way I could mistake someone wearing those three ridiculous symbols!

Trilo says he and Ben had been chasing Money for five minutes before heading back to where they're waiting. It is possible that the victim reached the crime scene during the five minute stretch. You begin cross-examination.

Witnessing Max: Cross-Examination

Press on Trilo's 4th statement. He said "good evening"? When given the choice, choose Trilo's evening greeting. Trilo said something nice to the person he really hates. Why is that?

Press on Trilo's 6th statement. Trilo and a chorus sing SILK HAT! CLOAK! WHITE ROSES!

Press Trilo's 3rd statement. When did the events go by. Begining at 10:00 PM He waited for Regina for five minutes before seeing Max go by, and chased after Money for the extra five. Add them up, and it's ten minutes, so the events passed at 10:10 PM.

Present the Broken Bottle at the 4th statement. When Max passed by, Trilo would likely start a fight. Earlier that day, both Trilo and Max had a fight for her and Max "clonked" Ben in the head with the bottle. If that is true, then there is no way Trilo would just say "good evening" and let it slip.

When asked if what Trilo saw, say He saw a different person. When asked who, Present Russel Berry's Profile. Trilo probably said a greeting, because he saw someone he didn't recognize as Max. If it was Max, Trilo wouldn't be so pleasent at all!

This leaves one question: If someone dressed as Max passed Ben and Trilo, then who is it? Von Karma says she has a new witness on her side. The Judge calls for a recess.

Court Mode: Part 2

Max pleads that he was no where near the crime scene, but at the Russel's office the whole time. He says he brought his stage clothes with him to talk with Russel. Russel went outside with Max's outfit to do something. He looked a lot like Max. When the crime scene was found, only his silk hat was found, but where was his cloak and roses? This is a deep mystery indeed.

Moe the Clown is called to the stand. He makes a couple of jokes (that no one laughs at) before testifying what he saw.

1. I know... I know... I'm not the greatest comedian in the world...
2. I haven't been able to make people laugh for 10 years!
3. No matter what I say, all I get in return is a vacant stare and polite applause.
4. Since no one ever laughs at my jokes, I've taken to laughing at them myself.
5. It's a bad habit, but hey, at least I'm trying!!
6. Imagine my predicament! I'm a clown who can't make people laugh!! I'm almost useless!
7. But I keep trying... I even tried to come up with jokes just for today!!
8. But this atmosphere is very nerve-racking! I decided to try making everyone laugh!
9. Seriously... Everyone... What do you think of me? How am I doing?

...Did Moe just talk about his problems rather than what he saw? Let's try that again.

1. The night of the murder, after practice was over, I went straight back to my room.
2. You have no idea how tired I was that night. I was pooped.
3. I thought I'd go straight to sleep, but before I did, I glanced out the window.
4. I heard a huge noise outside the window, and that's what made me take a look outside...
5. That's when I saw two silhouettes! They were a bit far away though!
6. It was the Ringmaster, and he was with Max, who was wearing his cloak!
7. I kept watching them, and all of a sudden, Max clonked the Ringmaster over the head!

The Judge warns you if you press on Moe the wrong way (yes Press!) you will get penalized, a lot! Quite unfair, don't you think?

What You Witnessed: Cross-Examination

Press on Moe's 3rd statement. Then Keep pressing. Yesterday, Moe told you he heard a large "THUMP" outside. Moe says he forgot to mention it, and revises his testimony.

• I heard a huge noise outside the window, and that's what made me take a look outside.

Press on that statement. Moe says it sounded like someone getting hit... hard.

Press statement 7. Moe says he didn't see a murder weapon. Than what did he see? You ask him if he really did see the crime at all. Von Karma tells you if you couldn't answer, you will get a penalty that will reduce half of your health bar! When ask to accept the challenge, say Of course I do! Moe says he saw the crime AFTER Max "clonked" Russel dead, so he did not see the crime occurring!

Moe admits he didn't actually see the crime itself, thanks to von Karma. However he did see the silhouette. The Judge has Moe testify about the silhouette.

1. I was a bit far away, but that shadow could only have belonged to Max.
2. There's no doubting it. Especially since I saw his uppity symbols.
3. His silk hat. That black cloak. They were all there!
4. His face was silhouetted, but there was no doubt that it was him.
5. His cloak was fluttering in the wind, so I couldn't really see what he was carrying.

The Silhouette: Cross-Examination

Present the Max G. Promo on the 3rd statement. Silk hat and black cloak? What about the white roses? Moe says there weren't any roses there! Von Karma says it was to dark, but you say the roses were white. Von Karma then states that the roses fell off, but you say the police would've found them.

Now recall Trilo's testimony. He said he saw all three symbols, but Moe now says he saw two.

The Judge decides to hear one more testimony from Moe and state a ruling.

1. There's no doubt in my mind! There were no white roses that night!
2. However, all of the other symbols were there... I'm equally sure of that.
3. Especially the silk hat! There is no way I could forget seeing the decorations on it!
4. He was wearing it the entire time that he was on the scene!

The Judge gives you only one chance. He warns you that if you make a slightest mistake, he will reach his verdict, so even Pressing Moe would be an instant game over for you. This is it, a sudden death moment!

The Silhouette, Part 2: Cross-Examination

Present the Silk Hat at statement 4. The silk hat was found at the crime scene, but Moe says Max was wearing it the whole time. Moe insists that he saw Max wearing it the whole time.

Phoenix asks Moe how did the murderer leave the crime scene. Moe says he just turned and walked away. The Judge wants you to show evidence to counter this claim. Present the Crime Photo. You can see the victim's footprints, but where are the murderer's? Moe decides to testify and tell the truth this time. Von Karma made him to hide the truth, but no more. She tells The Judge that he will have the same opinion as her: "It's not funny".

- The Truth -

1. Now it's time for our next segment, "Moe knows..."!!
2. Everything I've said up until now has been the truth!
3. When I looked out the window, the Ringmaster was down and Max was standing above him!
4. He wasn't wearing his white roses, but he was wearing the silk hat!
5. That's when I saw... He...
6. This is the truth now, get ready for it!
7. He flew! He jumped up and flew through the air!!
8. He flew right off and disappeared into the darkness!
9. That's why there were no footprints! Flying people don't leave footprints!

The murderer flew!? The Judge asks what you think of the testimony. Say He's telling the truth.

The Judge wants to know how Max flew. The decides to adjourn court for today.

After the trial

Max says he doesn't fly, he just used invisible strings that carried him through the air. You'll just have to find the real flying criminal and shoot him down (not literally, but still).

Day Two: Investigation Mode

Talk to Maya if you want, otherwise Move to the Detention Center

Max says some producers talked Max into making a TV special that involves him to make a prison escape, but if you don't find him innocent before the show airs, he's done for. Talk to Max:

Night of the Murder: Max insists that he was at the ringmaster's office at the time of he murder.

Today's Trial: Maya tells Max he should be respectful to the other members, but Max says they lack ambition, and he can't stand it. Max says he won an International Grand Prix.

Grand Prix: Max shows you a picture of himself at the Grand Prix. He says he could die a happy man at that moment, and thinks all of the other performers should fell that way. He gives you the Grand Prix Photo, which will be added to the Court Record.

Move to the Circus Entrance.

You'll see Ben and Trilo here, who are practicing a new routine where they are singing a round. Maya gives the ring back to Trilo. Talk to Ben/Trilo.

Today's trial: Maya asks the two what they saw. Trilo says he thought it was Russel at first. He didn't get a reply and he was wearing the three symbols. If he hadn't they would've thought it was Russel.

Marriage: Maya wonders why Ben and Trilo didn't just look inside the tent for Regina. Trilo says it would be a pain to wait outside. That's why he waited, to make sure his body is aching for her.

Ventriloquism: Trilo says he and Ben is practicing for the Grand Prix. He looks very eager to win.

Move to the Lodging House - Plaza

You'll run into a bushed Gumshoe, who tells you von Karma is here and is currently investigating at Acro's Room, since if what Moe says was true, then the murderer could have flown past Acro's window.

It looks like you should stay away from her for now. Move to the Big Top - Cafeteria.

Cafeteria

You'll see Moe there. After being tormented with another joke, Present to Moe the Grand Prix Photo. Moe says Max has shown everyone the photo. Not only that, but his enormous "bust". He makes everyone bow down to his bust everyday, and his greatness.

Talk to Moe:

Today's trail: Moe doesn't look like he enjoyed the trial, as he told a great joke.

What you witnessed: Moe says he saw what he saw. He swears he saw Max's face. You don't see a Psyche-Lock, so he must be telling the truth.

Max's Bust: Moe says it should be on the table in this room, but it was stolen five days ago. You see the picture of the bust on the bulletin board. The Max G. Bust will be added to the Court Record. Moe says that something has "changed".

What changed: Moe says that earlier on the day of the crime, a piece of paper was posted on the wall. He doesn't know who it's from, who posted it, and what it says, as someone tore of half of the paper. You do see the first part of the paper saying "to the murderer". Murderer!? It sounds important! The Note will be added to the Court Record.

You may want to talk to Max about this. Move to the Detention Center.

Detention Center (2)

Present the Note to Max. He says he has seen it before. At the morning before the murder, Russel saw the note posted on the wall. After reading it, he became enraged and tore it off the board and crumpled it in his tailcoat pocket. Max wants you to find the letter and read it yourself.

The Ringmaster put it in his tailcoat pocket huh? Move to the Big Top - Ringmaster's Room.

Ringmaster's Room

Examine the piece of paper on the tailcoat. It's the second half of the note! On it's entirety, it reads:

"To The Murderer!

I have conclusive evidence of what took place.

Meet at 10:00pm tonight at the lodging house plaza."

10:00 PM!? That's when the murder took place! The Note will be updated to the Court Record.

Move to the Lodging House - Plaza.

Gumsoe says he is just finished with the investigation with Acro. You then hear beeping noises. Gumshoe says the noise indicates that von Karma is near and runs off. Von Karma herself will encounter you afterwards. Talk to von Karma:

Tomorrow's trial: Von Karma says she has "conclusive evidence" and a "conclusive witness". It is the acrobat, who claims to saw the murder fly past his window.

"Revenge": Von Karma says she didn't come here to avenge her father, but Miles Edgeworth. Wait, Edgeworth!?

Miles Edgeworth: She is here for Edgeworth, because he is like a little brother to her. She blames you now that he's gone.

Edgeworth's Death: Since the case that occurred a year ago, Edgeworth hasn't set foot in court. One day he "vanished" leaving a note behind saying "Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death". Death!? Does that mean he is dead? Von Karma denies it, believing he is still alive somewhere. She says you killed the "Prosecutor" inside Edgeworth. That is what her revenge is.

You decide to talk to the performer. Move to Acro's Room.

Acro's Room

You will meet Acro, who was expecting you. Talk to Acro:

Berry Big Circus: When he was a kid, Acro's parents abandoned him, and Russel adopted him. He took very good care of him. So good in fact that Acro decided to repay him. Acro fears he was too kind for Regina. You then detect a hint of Acro's grudge against her.

Wheel Chair: You ask why Acro is o a wheel-chair. Acro says he was injured during practice. You then see 3 Psyche-Locks. Did something else happen? Acro says he damaged the nerves six months ago. What happened?

What happened: Acro wasn't here yesterday because he was in a hospital. He told the police what he saw, but von Karma tells him it was just a dream. What did he see?

What you witnessed: On the night of the murder. Acro says he was sleeping when he heard a huge noise. He looked out his window and saw Max flying. That's the same statement as Moe!

Move to the Big Top.

Big Top

You are attacked by Regent the Tiger again, only to be saved by Regina once again. She was trying to teach him to teach "Money the Monkey" a lesson Talk to Regina:

Russel Berry: Nothing worth hearing, except the mentioning of Russel killing Léon the Lion again.

Money the Monkey: Regina says Money stole her stage costume. She asks you if you could get her back. You are given a choice. It doesn't matter what you choose.

Present the Note. Regina says she has seen the note and it was in her pocket on the morning of the murder. She denies being a murderer and thinks someone might have lost it, so she posted it on the bulletin board the morning of the murder. The Note will be updated to the Court Record.

Present the Small Seasoning Bottle: Regina says she saw it at the cafeteria.

Time to look for the stage costume. Move to Moe's Room.

Moe's Room

You will find Money in there. You are given a choice. It doesn't matter what you choose, as he will give you the Stage Costume, which will be added to the Court Record.

Now that you retrieved the costume, Move back to the Big Top.

Present Regina's Stage Costume. Regina will say the costume actually belonged to Léon the Lion. Talk about Léon. Léon's practice went awry and he bit someone. For this, Russel was enraged and shot the lion dead. Léon will be added to the Court Record.

Now Move to the Cafeteria.

It looks like Moe is still hanging around here. Talk to Moe:

Berry Big Circus: Since Russel's death, Moe has been thinking about trying on the Ringmaster's shoes. Moe wants to get over a tragedy. Get over what?

"Get over it?: You ask Moe about the tragedy, but 2 Psyche-Locks appear, concerning an event for "six months ago".

When you are given a chance to prove the cause of the accident, Present Léon. The incident happened six months ago, so did the death of Léon.

You ask Moe who was involved. Moe said he promised someone he wouldn't say anything. Apparently he was involved as well. When given the chance Present Acro's Profile.

Talk to Moe again:

"Get over what"?: Moe reveals to you that during stage practice, Léon bit someone hard. His name is Bat, Acro's brother and trapeze partner. He isn't dead but is in a coma.

Acro's brother: Moe tells you that Bat was in love with Regina. To impress her, Bat decided to do something daring during practice, to put his head inside Léon's mouth. When he did, however, Léon bit down with a weird look on his face, almost as if he was smiling.

After talking, Moe will add pepper to his burgers. Maya sneezes as a result. Moe tells you that Bat always loved teasing Regina with pepper. This may sound trivial now, but it will be a vital clue to this case.

Move to Acro's Room.

Acro insists that his injuries were an accident. Present Léon. Acro was probably attacked by a lion.

Acro asks why he was attacked by a lion. You think he rather battled the lion. When Acro asks why, Present Bat's Profile. Bat was attacked by Léon during practice, so Acro probably attacked the lion to protect his brother.

Acro suspects Moe had told you. Moe hasn't said anything about Acro. Acro says it was only an accident, but you still see on Psyche-Lock. He must be hesitant about mention someone he doesn't seem to like much. When given a chance to show that someone, Present Regina Berry's Profile. Regina was Léon's owner, and the tragedy was caused by Léon.

Acro says Regina never taught Léon to attack people, but you know he still hates Regina. When given a chance to show how, Present the Note. Every morning, Regina takes Acro to his breakfast. Acro probably wrote it and decided to put it in Regina's pocket.

Talk to Acro again:

Wheelchair: Acro will confess that Léon broke his legs six months ago. Bat wanted to take Regina to the movies, so he dared to put his head inside the lion's mouth. He did so and since then, Acro visited the hospital now and then, waiting for Bat's eyes to reopen.

Regina and Bat: Both Regina and Bat were great friends. On the day of the incident, Regina gave Bat a present, a scarf. It looks like it is covered in blood. Acro says Léon was smiling when he attacked. It looks like Moe was right.

It looks like you could keep the seemingly vital scarf, but von Karma suddenly appears and, hearing every word, takes it away from you. She also mentions that Acro will be on the witness stand tomorrow.

This concludes today's investigation. Do you think you have a chance against von Karma now that she took an important looking piece of evidence from you?
