You are about to begin the StrategyWiki walkthrough for Pokémon Red,& Blue, from the start of your journey in Pallet Town to the final battle that will prove once and for all who is the Champion. Pokémon is a deep and complicated game, and each page is packed with as much useful information as possible. Before you begin, please take a few minutes to read through this section.

Because of the high amount of information included on each page, special attention has been paid to the layout of the tables and images in this guide. It is recommended that you view this guide with a minimum desktop resolution of 1024 × 768, or higher if possible. Maximize your browser as wide as possible in order to see the pages the way they were intended. Some pages will not display right in smaller widths.

Local Maps

You will find a map of each area of the game in that area's section. In the cases where they are too wide, they have been shrunk to allow room for other useful information. If a map has been shrunk and there's not enough detail for you to make something out, click on the map for a better look.

Pokémon Profiles

As new Pokémon become available, you'll find profiles on them. These profiles aren't made to give you background on the Pokémon, just to give you an evaluation of whether they're worth using, and maybe some tips on how to use them right. Remember that you may find some Pokémon to be better than what the profiles say, so don't take them as an authority, but as a suggestion.

Pokémon that are only available in Blue (such as Meowth) have blue borders, Red-only Pokémon have red borders. If they appear in both Red and Blue, the border will be in purple.

New Pokémon

Somewhere towards the top of each section, you'll find a table that says which new Pokémon you'll be able to get there. These tables only list Pokémon when it's your best chance to get them in each version, and only list each Pokémon once. If you catch all of the Pokémon shown in these tables, at the end of the game you'll have every Pokémon that's possible to obtain in your game. The 1 exception is evolved forms, which aren't listed, since it's usually easier to get those by leveling up your Pokémon from their 1st forms.

Trainer Data

As you progress through the various places, you'll run into a variety of trainers who will challenge you whenever they see you. To help you determine whether it's a fight you can win, or a fight worth fighting, each trainer's name, Pokémon, and the amount of Pokédollars are listed either to the side or below each map.

Pokémon Finder

The probability of running into certain Pokémon varies wildly from area to area and version to version. The percentages listed here roughly reflect how much work each Pokémon is going to be to get in each version. (The color of the border around the number indicates which version of the game is being represented. They always appear in the order: Red, Blue.)

If the name of the Pokémon is in blue instead of red, that means the #s reflect the % of running into Pokémon while you're using Surf to move on water.
