Welcome to all users! This page is where people can ask StrategyWiki-related questions to the staff and senior community figures, and they will do their best to answer. If you want to raise a topic for discussion (rather than just ask about it), please use community issues instead. New issues are entered here, with the most recent at the bottom of the page. Please review the Table of Contents to see if your issue has already been raised; also check the archives (to the right) in case it was discussed some time ago.

To facilitate ease of browsing and replying, please:

  1. Place your question at the bottom of the list
  2. Title the question (by placing the title between equals signs: ==title==)
  3. Sign your name and date (by adding two hyphens and four tildes: --~~~~)

Registering at ABXY

I saw that CI was moved to abxy, and so tried to register there, but after hitting the "submit" button on the page it just moved me back to the "Terms and Conditions" or whatever page. I tried it multiple times and it does the same thing. What should I do? Baejung92 13:23, 8 March 2008 (CST)

Do you have cookies allowed and JavaScript enabled? You may also need to temporarily disable the cookie-blocking functions of your security software (e.g. ZoneAlarm), or ideally add the site to their exceptions lists. You could also try registering from http://forums.abxy.org, although that's less likely to fix it. GarrettTalk 14:13, 8 March 2008 (CST)
Yes and yes to both questions... I was pretty sure I didn't have any cookie-blocking enabled. But I tried this with IE7 instead of Firefox, and because the "Register" link at the top of the page wasn't there on IE, I used the link near the bottom and it worked this time. Bizarre, but I don't know. Baejung92 17:15, 8 March 2008 (CST)
The problem is caused by specific security settings (default in Firefox, probably not in IE, though IE didn't work for me, either, at first). The solution is to click through until the URL displayed is abxy.org instead of forums.strategywiki.org. It's most likely a cross-site scripting issue where the browser sees different base URLs for the registration scripts, and doesn't allow them to execute. I was finally able to register using Firefox by clicking through to abxy before registering.--Vizeroth 17:29, 9 March 2008 (CDT)
I probably missed something with the cookie settings. If any of you sees this error again, I'd really like to see some output from LiveHttpHeaders. That would help me debug it. echelontalk 23:04, 9 March 2008 (CDT)
I can't register with the name Rocky, it says it's already in use, will I be able to have the single log-in if I choose the same password or does the username also have to be the same?--The preceding signed comment was added by Rocky (talkcontribs). 13:24, 10 March 2008 (CDT)
I'd suspect the user names have to be the same. The Rocky profile has no posts, however, so it could probably just be deleted. GarrettTalk 14:56, 10 March 2008 (CDT)
I just deleted the old Rocky account. echelontalk 09:44, 11 March 2008 (CDT)

Subpage watch

Is there a way so that all subpages for a game may be watched, or do we have to watchlist each subpage individually? bibliomaniac15 17:00, 9 March 2008 (CDT)

Unable to login

Hi my username was 01110011. Under this name I have contributed to this Wiki for many days but today I get:

Login error:
You have not specified a valid user name.

What happend? Please help. 84.87.68.10 01:31, 12 March 2008 (CDT) (84.87.68.10 = user formaly know as 01110011)

I don't know why you would be getting this error. Perhaps it's your password and not your user name? You can always attempt to email the password to yourself. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 01:57, 12 March 2008 (CDT)
I don't know why this is happening either, but it happens to me (and my friend Jack Phoenix) as well. I can successfully log in by logging into a different account, then logging out and back in as this one (it still gives the error, but it does log in after that). I'll poke echelon and see if he knows the reason why (I'm guessing it's due to the shared session cookie between StrategyWiki and ABXY and/or something wrong with the user database). --Skizzerz (talk · contribs) 15:50, 12 March 2008 (CDT)
Yikes, I know what it is. I set a regex (/^[a-z][\w\-]{2,11}$/i or similar) on new users signing up (to prevent nastiness if/when we have to merge the user system), and I think it was applied to login accidentally. I'll dig it out. echelontalk 00:22, 13 March 2008 (CDT)

I now have similar problems creating a forum account. I get the terms page and click "I agree to these terms", I come to the next screen. Request for Screenshots

Could someone please upload screenshots of Ocarina of Time into the guide? It seems a bit lackluster in some places, especially as you go further into the guide. --|Superpowered Mario (Talk|contribs)

That was originally my old job. I'll try to get back into the game and get screenshots of the dungeons and such. (I can't do much this weekend, though.) echelontalk 00:35, 29 March 2008 (CDT)

Alright, then. I'll take any you can get. There should be some for the dungeons because as for right now, the Deku Tree is the only one filled up and all the rest are empty.--|Superpowered Mario (Talk|contribs)

Copyright Question

As a part of my guide I have been copying text for puzzle descriptions and hints from the actual game (Professor Layton and the Curious Village). Is this a copyright violation? If it is, I will delete it right away. If it's not, do I need to cite it? Thanks --Skyeunilover 10:59, 28 March 2008 (CDT)

If you've only been copying small chunks and they're useful for demonstrating aspects of or tactics for the game, I think it's acceptable under fair use, but IANAL. --DrBob (talk) 11:21, 28 March 2008 (CDT)

Server Issue

I think the administration needs to see this link. Hopefully this doesnt cause any issues but I kind of stumbled on this hole when a friend of mine sent me an image link... [1] the whole subdomain is kind of showing.

Showing something like that publicly isnt usually good so I dont know if you want to lock that down or do something. Sorry if I have caused any issues. --216.8.149.4 21:57, 28 March 2008 (CDT)

Thanks for the notice. I don't think there is any issue since it's a static html page, but it's showing a bit more than it probably should (and it's outlived its usefulness). -- Prod (Talk) 22:32, 28 March 2008 (CDT)

When do contributions show?

I know that the wiki pages update and show the changes the moment I press the 'Save page' button, so this question isn't regarding that. As someone new to the wiki forums, and a bit of understanding of html to which I'm certainly no where close to fluent, I've clicked the edit button a few times to find out the encoding to make tables, same-page links, and inter-page links.

So my question is this. For my contributions history, does the times I hit edit and then use the 'Back' button on my internet browser [IE7] show up as a contribution? Should I have been using the 'Cancel' link each of this times of refrence finding?Dartmoor 15:34, 3 April 2008 (CDT)

I may be misunderstanding your question, but if I follow you correctly, the only thing that counts as a contribution is if something in the contents of the page is changed and saved. Merely clicking on the edit button doesn't count as a contribution. Even showing a preview of your changes doesn't count. The only thing that will add your name to the history of edits is if you actually commit your changes to the database by saving them. Did that answer your question? Procyon (Talk) 15:41, 3 April 2008 (CDT)
You certainly understood my question alright. Because my first few edits were only linked to my IP Address, before I signed up, I wasn't fully certain when I went to check out my history several edits later. Thanks for the quick reply, Procyon. Dartmoor 17:49, 3 April 2008 (CDT)
You may want to see the StrategyWiki:Guide, in particular this page and this page, which detail how wiki markup works and how to make tables. --Skizzerz (talk · contribs) 19:07, 3 April 2008 (CDT)

When trying to upload unsupported image formats

I was uploading some images today, and when I hit the upload button Firefox gave me the error message "Connection to the site was renewed" or something like that, and wouldn't upload. Safari was doing the same thing. A bit later I realized I've been trying to upload a bitmap file, which I now know is not supported. But I had a question: Shouldn't SW just display a message saying that I'm trying to upload an unsupported image if I tried to do that? How come it doesn't even load a SW page? It worked when I switched to jpg, so I'm assuming the image format did have to do something with the error message. Baejung92 18:43, 8 April 2008 (CDT)

Check the filesize. It was probably over 1.5 megs. Use PNG instead, since even mspaint can handle that (and reduces the filesize significantly). -- Prod (Talk) 18:55, 8 April 2008 (CDT)
JPEG is ok too right? Because I already uploaded them... :) Baejung92 19:40, 8 April 2008 (CDT)
Yeah it's ok, but since you're using MSPaint, they force you to use a lower file size while making the image quality worse (and creating artifacts). You may not notice the difference that much, but trust me, the quality is terrible. GIF also works, and I know MSPaint can save those cleanly. We recommend you use GIMP. Thanks though - no real need to upload new versions of the images unless you have the originals and would like to make them better =) --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 01:46, 9 April 2008 (CDT)
I use Image Analyzer for all manipulation (except for transparencies); it's got a much simpler interface than the Gimp and the like but still has all the necessary features. As for GIFs, they should only be used for animation; properly optimised PNGs will always be better than GIFs, and MS Paint generally doesn't reduce the GIF palette in the ideal manner. Master of Orion II - request for comments

I've done quite a lot (? 60% - 70%) of Master of Orion II and would appreciate comments. Besides the usual aspects, I'd like to know whether this is the kind of thing StrategyWiki is interested in - I've got the impression from various discussions that StrategyWiki may be more interested in console games, FPSs and RPGs.

Notes:

  • I'm still thinking about how to structure the military stuff, and the Contents Page is only my current thoughts. The problem is that by this stage a fairly experienced player is thinking on several tracks simultaneously, and they all feed back into each other. I may have to draft the whole thing as a text file to see how best to make it hang together from a newbie's piont of view.
  • The current content is mainly oriented towards medium, large or huge galaxies and games that start at the lowest tech level. If that goes well I'll add major sections on small galaxies (dominated by blitz and anti-blitz techniques) and on higher-tech starts.
  • There's probably a lot of wikilinking needed, but I'll leave most of that until the end, when I know where everything's final position is.
  • There's lot of scope for images, but I'll leave many of these to the end.

Please post comments at my Talk page. Philcha 07:01, 22 April 2008 (CDT)

Total Annihilation/Units

I've tried out in Total Annihilation/Units an idea that was discussed sometime ago on my Talk page. The point is that for many classes of unit ARM and Core mostly have equivalent units, so a lot of space can be saved (especially in the TOC) by combining them - IIRC the main exceptions are Level 2 K-bots. So far I've only done Level 1 K-bots. Should this approach be extended to all classes of units in which near-equivalents are common? If so, how much in the way of unit stats should we display? IMO apart from costs most of the stats are fairly meaningless and it's more informative to say e.g. "A is a little faster than B and a little tougher than C" (note: so far I've been unable to fint data on hitpoints). If we cut the stats to the bone I can change the orientation of the data table in each section, and that will save a little more space.

Please post comments at my Talk page. Philcha 12:55, 22 April 2008 (CDT)

I would suggest keeping this kind of discussion on the talk page for the specific guide. Most people don't really have the insight into the game that you do, so can't really comment knowledgeably about the topic. As for the page specifically, you have a few options. If you could merge the ARM/Core sections together, that would probably save plenty of space. Another suggestion would be to split the page up a bit by unit type (Aircraft, K-bots, Ships, etc.). You could also convert some sections into tables with each row being a unit, and the columns: Class, weapon, comments, and maybe even tier (using sortable tables). -- Prod (Talk) 01:18, 25 April 2008 (CDT)
Hi, Prod, thanks for the comments!
I posted my questions here because I thought relatively few people would watch the TA guide specifically, and because I hoped others would have come across similar layout issues in other guides.
I agree it will probably be a good idea to split pages by unit type - Level 1 K-bots, Level 1 vehicles, ..... Level 2 K-bots, Level 2 vehicles, ....
I'm happy to use tables where appropriate (see for example Master of Orion II/List of Colony Leaders). But I suspect they won't work so well for lists of TA units because the comments vary so much in length (especially for the Commanders!).
OTOH I think tables are good for presenting the most basic facts about each units, followined by paragraphs of comments.
In my previous post I mentioned an alternative layout for these basic facts. Here's an example, I'd like to know which you prefer.
(a) in the current version:
ARM Peewee Core A.K.
Build cost: energy 697 696
Build cost: metal 53 56
Weapon 1 Light Energy Machine-Gun 1 very light laser
(b) the alternative, (and I'd omit "Weapon 2" for 1-weapon units, this is just a layout example). This saves a line, but would adapt less well to providing additional stats (hit points, weapon damage, movement speed turning speed, acceleration); but I'm less keen on the additional stats as the HP and damage can be summed up as "X beats Y in a one-on-one" and the movement stats are meaningful only to modders.:
Side Name Cost: energy Cost: metal Weapon 1 Weapon 2
ARM Peewee 697 53 1 Light Energy Machine-Gun -
Core A.K. 696 56 1 very light Laser -
Philcha 07:03, 27 April 2008 (CDT)
They both look fine to me. As for subpaging, from the length of each of the sections in the current page toc, it looks like having tier1/2 kbots on the same page would work, if that's useful for readers. -- Prod (Talk) 11:10, 27 April 2008 (CDT)
Thanks. I'll put Level 1 Vehicles on the same page - I want Level 2 to be on a different set of pages from Level 1, as e.g. "premature moves to Level 2 technology are a leading cause of Commander deaths" (from one of Cavedog's own strategy pages). Philcha 11:57, 28 April 2008 (CDT)

What do I do if I accidentally erased a portion of my favorite wiki???

Specifically, I deleted level 28 of the Solomons Key walkthrough map screen... and I am super bummed and really really sorry! I am inexperienced and was only trying to share some notes on this very difficult game! Any tips? Is there a way to reset the changes? Can I contact the original poster to find the necessary image?

-Mike

It's ok, I fixed it for you. Did I miss anything? If you go to the Recent changes link on the side navigation and look for the tiny links to the left of every edit there will be one that says (diff). If you click on that it will display what is different on the page compared to what was there previously. It's pretty cool, I use it often to double-check my edits so I didn't miss something while editing. Every line that had something added, moved, or subtracted will show up beside the previous version with the changes a different color.--Zaiqukaj 05:45, 25 April 2008 (CDT)
Note that you can also access this using the "history" tab shown on every page. You can even use this to check the difference between several edits. GarrettTalk 04:58, 28 April 2008 (CDT)

Posting answers to games

Hello StrategyWiki sysops,

I would like to know if it is okay to post answers to online games found here on StrategyWiki. Thanks in advance. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Superbunny (talkcontribs) .

I believe you are asking if you can create guides for the games at that website? I'm going to have to say no - these are small flash games and would only be included if the administrators decided that they were acceptable. Please see StrategyWiki:Guide/Scope. The games themselves don't seem to need a guide, but simply a cheat or answer repository - I'll bring it up at the next meeting. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 03:07, 28 April 2008 (CDT)
Yes, those games are all out of scope for StrategyWiki. I do realize that a majority vote by the community can override the scope, but I do not see that happening for games with such low difficulty levels strategy-wise. --Skizzerz (talk · contribs) 15:29, 28 April 2008 (CDT)

Separating Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS

I've noticed those two games are jumbled together in a mess, and they aren't written very well. They need to be separated into two different guides to make sure nobody confuses one game with another. Is anyone besides me willing to help clean them up? -- |Superpowered Mario (Talk|contribs) 12 May 2008

Yeah it's on our sysop list to do, so we'll help where we can. I don't own DS, but I've beaten the original - what should we do, just copy the 64 pages to DS ones and then have someone update the DS ones to fit the DS version? I don't know what needs being "separated" since we already have two guides and an integrated ToC. If the data lists are different (monsters, etc.), then we'll either have to add sections on those pages or make completely new ones for the other game. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 20:56, 12 May 2008 (CDT)
These games should not be separated. This is just like the SNES and GBA versions of Zelda: Link to the Past. SM64DS is a super-set of the original SM64. The proper way to handle this problem is to carefully delineate what portion of information refers to both version, and what portion refers only to the DS version. Procyon (Talk) 22:28, 12 May 2008 (CDT)
I got Super Mario 64 DS version a couple weeks ago, so I could've helped fix the articles, but my DS is lost to the ages right now :-(, so I can't do much myself. If anyone out there is able to cleanup the articles so that they are accurate (not separate them like I originally requested), it would help. --|Superpowered Mario (Talk|contribs) 14 May 2008
The guide really just needs some organizational TLC. The information is present, but the pages are not arranged in any particularly appealing fashion. Procyon (Talk) 16:01, 14 May 2008 (CDT)
I had combined the two guides together since there was tons of overlap. I haven't played sm64 for a while, and I don't have the ds version, so I couldn't properly tell which was regular 64 and which was ds only. I just looked over some of the pages again, and they don't look too bad. The info is on the right pages, and any of the SM64DS specific stuff is in sidebars. It's definitely missing information from both games, and needs layout cleanup, but I wouldn't call it a mess. If you can point out what specifically is wrong, I'd be glad to help. -- Prod (Talk) 00:49, 15 May 2008 (CDT)

deleting a account

i had trouble login on with my one account so i made another account but i figured out how to login. so my real question is how to delete one of my accounts thanks ––LiL Bill 14:57, 16 May 2008 (CDT) nintendogamer60

Once created, an account can never be deleted. If you figured out the password to your main account, simply don't use the other one. If you are wondering why it can't be deleted, there are two main reasons: 1) any accounts with edits or log entries must be maintained in order to satisfy the GFDL (and since the new user log gives at least one to each account...), 2) as of now, it is physically impossible to safely delete an account from the database without screwing other stuff up. I hope that answers your question. --Skizzerz (talk · contribs) 16:31, 16 May 2008 (CDT)

stratawiki.com

Hi StrategyWiki staff. I left the following message on Echelon and Garrett's talk pages -- that was before I discovered the Staff Lounge (where this edit belongs). Sorry for any inconvenience.

About 1 year ago I registered the domain stratawiki.com with the intent to create the exact site that you have: a wiki devoted to gaming strategy and walkthroughs (basically a wikified GameFAQs). At the time I didn't know about strategywiki.org, but saw that there was a need for such a site. I'm happy to see that someone was able to follow through to create one.

Would the SW admins like to own the stratawiki.com domain? I happened to have just renewed it through April of 2009, and I don't plan on renewing it again. If the SW crew is interested, I'll transfer it to you for free (assuming you cover any transfer/registration fees); otherwise I'll just let it expire next year.

Kanook 12:32, 21 May 2008 (CDT)

I'd be against this purchase. Why, you ask? Well, let's take a look at the pros and cons then, shall we?
Pros Cons
  • One less domain our competitors can use
  • Adds to our yearly cost, which - if I recall correctly - we're barely making ends meet with our ads as-is
  • There are millions of other domains competitors can still use
So, 2 cons, 1 pro that's negated by con #2... so there really is no obvious benefit in my opinion to purchasing this domain. --Skizzerz (talk · contribs) 16:21, 21 May 2008 (CDT)
Ok, I'll let it expire then. Kanook 01:05, 29 May 2008 (CDT)

Quickrow?

Hey all-

I am currently working on the FFTA guide, and I got done 2+ pages. Now I'm working on one major part of the guide, which is the shop at that moment in the game. I remember people using "quickrows" to make massive tables that have the same information in each table into 1 tables that each other table can call off of.

For example, here I want the item list down at the bottom to be dynamic, so that I only have to type in the information for the item once, and be done with it. Like I will have to put the same information for "Shortsword" on every page. If there is/was a quickrow function, I could type something in like {{Shortsword|qr}}, and the quickrow function would pop up instead of the normal massive template.

Anybody?

angel14995 13:01, 16 June 2008 (CDT)

Nevermind. After some consideration about the formatting, the Quickrow option won't be necessary.
I'm planning on doing massive cleanup of how the layout of the mission pages works. I'll probably have a prototype up soon, so if you could follow that once it is up, that would be awesome! :) --Skizzerz (talk · contribs) 16:00, 21 June 2008 (CDT)

OOT Screenshots

I know this is the second time I've asked, but all I want to know is if there will be any new screenshots added to Ocarina of Time any time soon.

If someone wants to do something about this (Echelon replied in my last request), like upload a few more screenshots for the dungeons, I'd appreciate it, because at the moment, I'm not in the position to do anything about it. .--|Superpowered Mario (Talk|contribs) 17:14, 18 June 2008 (CDT)

As far as I know, there a no current plans by any member. My recommendation to you would be to learn how to use Project 64 or the 1964 emulators. Once you know how to use them, taking screenshots will be easy. Procyon (Talk) 21:24, 18 June 2008 (CDT)

Staff lounge -> abxy forums?

Is there any particular reason the Staff Lounge hasn't been moved to the abxy forums?--Pelago 16:46, 21 June 2008 (CDT)

Staff lounge is for asking for wiki help, which may require wiki markup, which can't be done on a forum. Also much easier to link to stuff here. -- Prod (Talk) 17:04, 21 June 2008 (CDT)
Makes sense. Quite a lot of the topics here (e.g. "Separating Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS") look more like forum/policy-type questions than wiki/markup-type questions, which was why I asked. Maybe "staff lounge" should be renamed to make its purpose clearer. --Pelago 12:05, 22 June 2008 (CDT)
Technically, Staff lounge is for asking questions, and the community issues on the forum is for discussion --Skizzerz (talk · contribs) 12:39, 22 June 2008 (CDT)
I think what I must have been thinking was that Community Issues was for discussions raised by users (with staff also contributing), and Staff Lounge was for staff members (only) to talk to each other. Kind of like open-source software like MythTV which has a -users mailing list for support-type queries, and a -dev mailing list just for the developers to talk to each other. Obviously that was a mistake, but I wonder if other people don't realise that Staff Lounge is open to non-staff... --Pelago 17:05, 23 June 2008 (CDT)

Sidebars

Does anyone know why the sidebar I've tried to add at WarioWare:_Touched!/Ashley#Don.27t_Blow_It doesn't actually appear on the right-hand side of the screen? --Pelago 17:28, 22 June 2008 (CDT)

Fixed. The width parameter must be specified with a unit (i.e. pixels or percentage). --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:15, 22 June 2008 (CDT)
Thanks, I was missing the 'px' units. I see that the explanation at Template:Sidebar is correct, but I was following the explanation at StrategyWiki:Guide/Sidebars which says "width=width (pixels)", which looked to me like it meant to just put a number. Maybe the latter needs to be clarified.--Pelago 16:57, 23 June 2008 (CDT)

Bold and apostrophes

I'm trying to render "Ashley's" without the apostrophe being bold. Any ideas? This is so that I can highlight the word Ashley as the first word in the first para on WarioWare: Touched!/Ashley. By the way, I realise that emboldening the article title in the first para is more of a Wikipedia thing and is not mentioned in the style guide here, but I think it happens to look good! --Pelago 17:28, 22 June 2008 (CDT)

You could try emboldening it using the HTML-style "b" element: Ashley's (<b>Ashley</b>'s). --DrBob (talk) 17:55, 22 June 2008 (CDT)
Another alternative is to wrap the apostrophe in nowiki tags ('''Ashley'''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> = Ashley's) which achieves the same effect but is uglier for editing. GarrettTalk 18:51, 22 June 2008 (CDT)
Thanks, I'll use the <b> tags, I suppose, although I prefer the ''' style normally. --Pelago 17:00, 23 June 2008 (CDT)

The first thing is that Resident Evil 0 is not part of the Wii games list at all and since I'm unable to delete it, I just wish someone will deal with that silly error. The second thing since the Wii wheel came out, I would ask if they can develop like an image template to it so that it will be easier to put in. The last thing is similar to the second thing but it has to do with the Wii zapper and the games that goes along with it. To tell the truth, I have no experience developing a new page of games that uses that style of control. Compare to wikipedia, this one is slightly harder to do. I don't know anyone who knows how to make great button template design so I'm hoping I'll get to chat to someone. If I miss the reply, put it on my talk page so I'll have less difficulty finding the staff lounge section again. Johnnyauau2000 22:16, 22 June 2008 (CDT)

I've removed the Wii data from Resident Evil Zero. The category remained even after being removed because {{sys}} automatically applies one; categories added by templates are not shown in the text edit area. As for the Wii Wheel, I've taken a stab at it... Neutral wheel Left wheel Right wheel ...hopefully these look something like it. :) I've only done these three, let me know if it uses other motions. As for the Zapper, instructions could be along the lines of "aim with the Remote button held like a TV remote (or held like a gun if in the Zapper), and push B button to shoot"; readers will have a sufficient understanding of how a gun and TV remote are aimed. A basic image of the Zapper might help here and there, but depicting the actual aiming might make things even more confusing. GarrettTalk 23:07, 22 June 2008 (CDT)
Undone, see WP:Resident Evil Zero#Wii version. -- Prod (Talk) 23:28, 22 June 2008 (CDT)

Thanks. I've now added to it. As for the zapper, I just presume that the readers are new so I have no idea what the logic is. Anyway, I suppose Garrett is now doing the images and I'm inexperienced on that. I suppose the images on N64 and Xbox is fine but I do have difficulty reading it to tell the truth. The colours are too close to each other and the N64 and GC control stick is too identical. No offence but can you read that part? I hope there is an update version of those images so please, I'm trying to keep my cool here, maybe replace the buttons or not and maybe lighten the GC control stick to make it easier to tell apart. I hope this is enough of a challenge but I don't have a job at this time. Johnnyauau2000 23:54, 23 June 2008 (CDT)

The control sticks aren't really much of an issue, because a control stick is a control stick, they're the exact same on both platforms and there's no real need to tell them apart. As for the images, unfortunately most of our other systems don't even have images, so this will probably be a lower priority for most people. Also remember, this site is made up of the community users (like yourself), so people will only work on what interests them. -- Prod (Talk) 01:18, 24 June 2008 (CDT)

OK. Well if there's anymore Wii special accessories, I hope he's ready to create those templates. Good work on the Wii Wheel. The Wii Zapper should be easy. All you have to do is match the image to the trigger button on the Wii Zapper. I appreciate it. Johnnyauau2000 01:27, 24 June 2008 (CDT) One last thing. This might sound silly but everyone wants some fun. I believe if the motion controls are really good, it will be a good idea of seeing the Wii Remote "shaking" or Nunchuk with arrows, I call it endless possibilities. But to put it all in one image is really all you need so like moving the wii remote up or down or side to side should be simple. I'd appreciate it to give it more of an edge because it does help. Garrett should be given a medal for an endless possibilities of creating lots of images. It may take a lot of time but if you're calm, relax you'll get through it. Template requests

Some games (Team Fortress 2) are updated frenquently which often requires major rewrites of large amount of information. As such, I'd like to request 2 new templates:

Update pending
A template to mark that a game is about to receive a major update. Again, I really only want this for TF2 (got at least 7 major updates left to go), but I'm sure it can be applied to other games as well.

Updated frequently
This one is not really needed as much as the first one, but it'd be nice to have still. Would be used to mark games that are updated frequently, again, like TF2.

Oh, and an adaption of the counter strike map infobox template for TF2 would be nice too. It only needs Type and Developer fields.

Thanks! Kadir 02:31, 25 June 2008 (CDT)

hmm. I didn't realise the scale of your proposal. It might be best if you actually brought it up in the forum, where it would get a wider audience. I'll work on that TF2 map template. --DrBob (talk) 17:49, 27 June 2008 (CDT)
Aye, those are some big additions/changes. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:34, 28 June 2008 (CDT)

The discussion is now taking place here, so please leave comments, etc. there instead of on this page. Thank you. --Skizzerz (talk · contribs) 19:31, 28 June 2008 (CDT)

Placing a non-framed image within the caption of a framed image

This is a tricky one. Each 'microgame' in the WarioWare: Touched! walkthrough has an image to the left with a caption. The caption is a copy of the brief onscreen text that appears in the game to give you a hint as to what to do. Some games ask you to blow into the microphone, and have a mouth icon as part of the text. I have attempted to add that mouth icon to the text as in WarioWare:_Touched!/9-Volt_&_18-Volt#Donkey_Kong_3 but unfortunately the mouth icon gains a frame, which I don't really want. The Image tag for the mouth doesn't contain a 'frame' parameter, but it seems to be inheriting the frame border from the parent image. Any ideas? Maybe we need an explicit 'noframe' option? --Pelago 17:05, 4 July 2008 (CDT)

The way around this is to paste the full image URL, which is automatically turned into an image. I've fixed the one you linked to so you can see how it works. GarrettTalk 17:24, 4 July 2008 (CDT)
I'm not sure if this justifies a template, but I'm thinking about it. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:03, 4 July 2008 (CDT)
This bug has been fixed in the latest version of MediaWiki, so a template won't be needed. --Skizzerz (talk · contribs) 20:42, 4 July 2008 (CDT)

Aliens versus Predator (PC)

Please restore this. The deletion edit summary is false as this is not the same as the SNES game that was moved to Aliens versus Predator. Here's what was written in the PC guide.[2] Vikrant AP 15:28, 5 July 2008 (CDT)

SNES version is at Alien vs Predator, Arcade version is at Alien vs. Predator, PC version is at Aliens versus Predator. Everything is where it should be. -- Prod (Talk) 16:52, 5 July 2008 (CDT)
But why are the brackets removed. Vikrant AP 23:25, 6 July 2008 (CDT)
