| :Well, it looks like you intend to put a random quote from every admin, but this would make people's welcome message rather large. I thought the idea was to append a single quote. Now that I see it in action, I think it's a cool idea but doesn't really serve a purpose, especially if the unprofessional quotes we've chosen are indicative of what might show up on someone's welcome message. The administrators page is linked in the welcome message, though I'm not sure how often users look at it. That would be a good place to put a random quote next to someone's name, and it's not an entirely serious page to begin with. — <span style="color:#909090">najzere</span><span style="color:#993300">T</span> 16:13, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

| :: I think the bigger issue is that the welcome template isn't effective. We should form the welcome template to be less of a message and more informative (concise). We should also establish that the welcome template should be followed by something not pre-written, such as a nice thank you for the contribution(s). In this way, we would remove the signature from the template (so we aren't saying it is written by any one admin) and separate our comment from the template. -- 22:26, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

| :::The welcome template is highly effective, as it contains nothing but useful information. I don't know how we could make it more concise without removing necessary information, unless you'd like to see a plain list of links. And why in the world would we want to make welcoming new users a chore by having to write something from scratch every time? We have message templates for a reason… — <span style="color:#909090">najzere</span><span style="color:#993300">T</span> 23:29, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
| |
| ::::I'm suggesting just that. Removing the content of it would simplify the welcome template to a list of references for the new user (more useful, less data to sift), and the follow up comment would be the actual welcome. People can recognize an automated message, and the point of writing your own is to elicit an emotional response. In doing so, we have a higher chance of creating interest, loyalty, and reoccurring visits. -- 21:58, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
