==Easier editing==
The Show preview button (right next to the Save page button) lets you see how your changes will look before saving the page. You can use Show preview as many times as you like until you get the page how you want it. You can also edit the whole page at one time, as opposed to by section, by clicking the Edit tab at the top of the page. Hopefully these little shortcuts will make it easier for you to get the desired result when you're editing, and save you a little time. I don't know if you care for emulators or have a problem with them, but you can play games online with a computer with Java installed at virtualnes.com and virtualsupernes.com (they have a game boy one, too). This isn't preferable, since you can't save games (AFAIK), but it's cool for checking out titles you haven't heard of. Also, the RetroN5 is coming out soon, which can play NES, SNES, japanese versions of those, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games. --{{User:Notmyhandle/Sig}} 16:20, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

I don't want you to think I'm a jerk, or that I don't appreciate the work you're doing, but since you're uploading a lot of box art, I just wanted to throw these pointers out there.  You're not doing anything wrong, but there are some tips that could improve the quality of what you're doing.
# All images should be in jpg format with "jpg" as the extension, not "jpeg".  Avoid using pngs for anything other than screenshots or sprite rips.  Avoid using gifs for anything other than animation.
# When ''I'' upload box art, I usually go with the filename formula: Game_name_system_region_box.jpg, where system is an abbreviation for the system it's for, and region is something like US, JP, or EU.  So for example, "Super Mario Bros. 3 NES US box.jpg" or "Final Fantasy V SFC JP box.jpg".  This is important because some games came out for multiple systems in multiple regions, so it's good to know which scan you've uploaded.  Also, just adding box to the end helps distinguish the file from all the other files in that image category.
# If you really want to go the extra-mile, you can fill in the new image categories you're creating.  For example, you just established [[:Category:Kirby & the Amazing Mirror images]], so it's a red link.  If you click on it, you'll get an empty page.  The contents that I would put in there are:

::The best way to use Google Image search is to search for something, click on it, then when you see the black box, look under the URL by the square buttons and it will say the resolution, e.g. "300 x 100" and then "Search by image". Click on "Search by image" and it will take you to a white google page with a small thumbnails. Next to the thumbnail, click "All sizes". You will now be at an image search page sorted by the largest sizes at the top left. You'll notice the resolutions at the bottom. Hi Rod, I finally read through enough of the descriptions, and watched enough YouTube videos, to understand how the differences between the Wii Virtual Console (and 3DS and Wii U VCs), Wii Shop Channel, and Nintendo eShop. Basically, what I think we should do is have our main pages like:
*Distributor: [[Wii Shop Channel]] (this is because games are purchased through the Wii Shop Channel, not the Wii Virtual Console which is the emulator that is used to play the games) and [[Nintendo eShop]] (eShop covers 3DS and/or Wii U)
*Release date: use the virtual console sys (Wii VC, 3DS VC, and Wii U VC).
*System: <s>use the physical console (Wii, 3DS, and Wii U)</s>. use the virtual console (Wii VC, 3DS VC, or Wii U VC).
*Categories: put the physical console categories here because they will not have been added by {{t|sys}} in the release dates. Also, add <nowiki>[[Category:Nintendo eShop]]</nowiki> if used as a distributor. However, do not add Wii Shop Channel as it does not have its own category, instead, let it be covered by the Wii Virtual Console page.

Does this arrangement make sense? == Difference between programmed and emulated ==

Hi RK.  Before I begin, I want to apologize in advance if I go into a lot of detail about stuff you already know, but I don't know what you're familiar with and what you're not, so I'm just going to explain it as if you're not an expert on the subject.

There are potentially three different phases of a video game's commercial life.  The first phase is when the game is first created and published on one or several platforms.  That's the initial release, and there's no misunderstanding about how we categorize this phase.  It belongs in the categories of the platforms it was released on.

The second phase is the remake phase.  This is when the original design of the game is remade or reprogrammed for a different (presumably newer) platform than the one is was originally released on.  In this case, they start from scratch, and program the old game to take advantage of the new hardware.

The third phase is an emulated phase.  This is where they take the old code from the original game, and pump it through an emulator so that you can play the original game on a piece of hardware that it was never designed to run on.  All Virtual Console games fall under this third category.  No one actually wrote a program to play that specific game, they just wrote one emulator program to play back any game that was originally released for a particular system.

So let's use Donkey Kong Country as an example.  It was originally created to be played on the SNES, so naturally, it belongs in the SNES Category.  It was later ''remade'' by writing the whole program over so that it would run properly on the Game Boy Advance.  So since it was rewritten, it belongs in the GBA category.  Now, when they released it for Virtual Console, all they did was take the SNES program and run it through a SNES emulator on the Wii.  What people are playing is the original SNES program, just interpreted by a program so that the Wii can display the video, and accept input from the controller.  As far as the program is concerned, it actually thinks it's running on a SNES, and can't tell the difference.  So in this case, it does not belong in the Wii category because no one sat down and wrote a Wii program to play Donkey Kong Country.  The same emulator being used to play DKC is being used to play Mega Man X, and Super Mario World, and Street Fighter II, etc.

So do you understand the distinction, and why VC games should not be categorized under the Wii or Wii U or 3DS?  And even if they are not in those categories, they are still in their respective VC categories, so they're not lost, they're just sorted differently. This is policy, and not adhering to policy is what will result in bans, not because you had a disagreement with someone. The reason it's like this is because of redundancy: if a game is in the Wii U Virtual Console category, then it's redundant to also put it in the Wii U category, as this is easily deduced from the "Wii U" portion of "Wii U Virtual Console".
