Time Crisis 3 is a first-person shooter arcade game that was released by Namco in 2002; it runs on the company's System 246 hardware, and despite its name, it is the fourth game in their Time Crisis series. Featuring Namco's innovative "hit and hide" system, which they had pioneered in the original Time Crisis, and rated "Animated Violence: Strong", this installment sees the island of Lukano being threatened by the Zagorias Federation Army, who are planning to use tactical missiles which will not only threaten the island itself but also all nations surrounding it - and in response to this the V.S.S.E. (which stands for "Vital Situation, Swift-Elimination") have deployed two of its agents, Alan Dunaway and Wesley Lambert, to Giorgio Zott (the Zagorias Federation Army's leader who is behind the plot).
This was the first Time Crisis game that allowed the players to switch weapons while hiding from the enemies' gunfire; while hiding, both players may squeeze their lightguns' triggers to switch Dunaway and Lambert's standard-issue hand-guns (which have infinite ammunition, but both players still have to reload the guns by taking their feet off the cabinet's pedals for hiding) with submachine guns (that allow them to fire more rapidly while they are not hiding), shotguns (which extend their firing ranges) and grenade launchers (which deal significant injury to the enemies). With each enemy both players kill, they shall gain different ammunition depending on what type of weapon the enemy was carrying.
