The Dutch are relatively new to the game ariving at independence in the early 1600s and breaking off of a germen civilization called Holy roman empire. Independence was not granted by the germans till 1648 along with a hugh war walled the 30 years war. but for the dutch civilization it had been a 80 something year war for independence since the mid 1500s.

The default game begins in 4000 BC so Dutch are very new to the time line. some parts of the dutch colonial empire are still found on the north america map such as aruba and bonaire.be despite being a new civilization the dutch founded the dutch east india company wonder in the early 1600s before the holy roman empire granted it in 1648. but along with netherlands a new nation called switzerland was also carved out of the german civilization called holy roman empire. switzerland was not a playable civilization but can use the non-playable barbarian entities.
