Chaos Legion is a third-person action-RPG developed and published by Capcom with high resolution graphics, sound and the characters modeled in the Japanese art of Manga comics. The gameplay is fairly similar to other games (Devil May Cry, Serious Sam, and Painkiller) in which it's all about pure action. Enemies are thrown at you in wave after wave and the goal is to annihiliate them all. The key difference is the titular Chaos Legion, supernatural creatures that fight alongside the player. When they are active, Sieg Warheit (the main character) is unable to run and has weaker melee attacks. Legion can be controlled to a degree: their tactics can be switched between offensive and defensive, and you can issue orders to attack immediately with a certain button. While the Legion are inactive, Sieg can perform a sort of "special attack" called an Assist Attack which causes a Legion to appear and attack with him. The game has been incessantly criticized by professional reviewers, each of which claim that the clunky controls, repetitive action, and dull story completely suck out any fun that could be had with the game--in essence, "all brawn and no brain make Chaos Legion a dull game". Fans of the game find this amusing, as the games mentioned above (and others) were near-worshipped for their all-action genre. Like Gotcha Force, another Capcom title, the game has lots of fans who claim that the game is a brilliant release and is a breath of fresh air among other competitors.

Characters

  • SIEG WARHEIT: The knight of the Dark Glyphs, he was ordered to pursue Victor Delacroix. He was a close friend of Delacroix and Siela. After her death, Delacroix thought that Sieg was the murderer, and condemned him. Sieg has been given the command of the Ultimate Crest: the Thanatos Legion. Sieg has two modes of combat.
    • ASSAULT Mode: Sieg fights alone in this mode using his trusty sword. Attack power is enhanced and running is possible in this mode. Sieg can also use his current Legion's Assist Ability. However, Sieg is quite vulnerable to damage in this mode.
    • FORCE Mode: Sieg fights alongside with his Legionnaires in this mode. Attack power is halved and running is impossible in this mode. However, Sieg's Legions offer extra protection as well as awesome fight power and will fight for him to the death.
  • ARCIA RINSLET: The sole survivor of the Maidens of the Silver. She met Sieg while on duty to find Delacroix. She was also in search of Delacroix for personal matters. She cannot summon Legions, but with her dual guns and Sniper Mode, she alone is a force to be reckoned with. With Arcia around, let her bullets fly and the bodies fall. Like Sieg, Arcia has two unique modes of combat.
    • ASSAULT Mode: Arcia fights alone in this mode using her martial arts skills. Attack power is enhanced and running is possible in this mode. Arcia can perform an Orbit Fire Special in this mode.
    • SNIPER Mode: Arcia bends back, her visibility and gunfire accuracy extremely enhanced. A directable crosshair appears to gain clear shots on desired targets. However, her attack power diminishes. Running and Orbit Fire are not usable in this mode as well.
  • VICTOR DELACROIX: A once pious cleric-swordsman acquainted with Sieg and is the boyfriend of Siela. He went on a quest for world purification after the alleged murder of Siela with Sieg as her killer. In reality, he was manipulated by Azrail. The English translation of his French name is "Victory of the Cross". In the PC version, he is always called as Delacroix, even by his former best friend Sieg.
  • SIELA RIVIERE: Not much is known about this enigmatic girlfriend of Delacroix. She was killed when Sieg and Delacroix were on duty to banish the demon Azrail once again. She sacrificed her life for Sieg when she felt that Azrail was freed once again, and asked Sieg to take care of Delacroix in her place.
  • AZRAIL: The spirit of chaos. Its name was not revealed until the final stage, but it was behind the real murder of Siela under the hands of Delacroix, and then manipulated him until the very end, although Delacroix didn't really show any expression of being a puppet.

Monster Bestiary / Types

Monsters are classified as either Organic, Non-organic, or Metallic. Organic enemies are composed of flesh, blood, and bone. Metallic enemies are made of gleaming matter. Non-organic enemies are somewhat made in the middle of the two types. Blasphemy Legion's Crimson Carnage works wonders against all monsters and bosses, especially for the "revisited" stages. This is highly recommended for most stages. Even if not listed, Thanatos is considered effective against all enemy types.

Organic

This type of enemies include Balors, Ogmas, Badbhs, Zeodagdas (Ninjas, and Gunners), undead Zombies (Soldiers, Commander, Gunners, and Cannons), Jenons, Seedlings, Galarges, and the body of Rudo Garias. The main feature of organic enemies is the color, which is related to nature: white, gray, brown, green, red, etc. Organic creatures are usually animal-shaped, and have visible veins or bloodstains.

  • GUILT, HATRED, and BLASPHEMY will make short work of them.
  • Note: DO NOT confuse a bloody gray Zombie Soldier (organ) to a shiny gray Zombie Soldier (metal). Such mistake will be real trouble.

Non-Organic

This type of enemies include all forms of Danus, Golems, the shields of Rudo Garias, and all floating mines. The anatomical composition of these monsters remain unknown. Flawed and Blasphemy are the only Legions that can destroy floating mines without suffering too much damage. Blasphemy can also destroy RG's shield in one blow, as well as heavily damage a rock-hard Golem.

  • FLAWED, BLASPHEMY, and ARROGANCE will obliterate them.

Metallic

This type of enemies include Gunners, Archanus, Cannons, and silver Zombies. Metallic enemies have a shiny look when first seen, so deploy your anti-metal Legions. Several metallic enemies have ranged weaponry, where Malice and Arrogance both excel. Silver Zombies are the hardest to kill other than Golems. But with Perfect Thanatos, Sieg's life is a pure party... anything else is doomed.

  • MALICE, FLAWED, BLASPHEMY, and ARROGANCE will decimate them.
