After returning the ninth scroll to the sage in Castle Elysion, it's time to tackle the cave to the east which leads to the Sage's Island.  It is the cave right next to Marine Inn along the east coast.  When you step inside, the first floor will be visible, but all of the subsequent floors will be pitch black.  To see your way through this dungeon, you will need to equip the Cat's Eye, which can be purchased at most inns, or perhaps collected when dropped by one of the two-headed dog creatures outside.

Stepping into the dungeon, it will look like a standard tunnel at first, but it will open up into a room with a ladder in the middle and passages branching off in three directions.  There are actually two exits to find in this dungeon.  Both lead to islands, and while only the larger island contains the sage you are searching for, the small island is worth visiting as well.  The monsters that you encounter along the way include some enemies that you are familiar with, along with a new type of tall knight, and the first set of spell-casters that you've met so far.

Naturally, the dungeons hides a number of chests, and you are encouraged to cast Inspect liberally, especially when you are contained within a small chamber, in order to discover as many chests as you can.  Two of the chests in particular contain a powerful armor and shield, although they will be quickly made obsolete by the armor and shield hidden on either island.  Another chest will hold your strongest race-specific weapon.
