Special note: To access the options on the menu, the N64 and Switch use the {{n64|l}} button, GC uses the {{gc|z}} and the Wii-cc uses {{wii-cc|zl}}/{{wii-cc|zr}}.
Wii U VC configuration: It's basically the same as the Classic Controller with the {{wiiu|ZL}} and {{wiiu|ZR}} on the backs instead of the top middle. In addition, you're allowed to configure the controls with the exception of the {{wiiu|neutral|dpad}}. You can access the Virtual Console menu by touching the Wii U Gamepad screen.

The best recommendation in setting up the controls follows like this:
*{{wiiu|ZL}} for using items ({{N64|Z}})
*{{wiiu|ZR}} for drift ({{N64|R}})
*{{wiiu|L}} for change music ({{N64|L}})
*{{wiiu|R}} for change on screen display ({{N64|Right|C}})
*{{wiiu|Minus}} for Virtual Console menu
*{{wiiu|A}} and {{wiiu|Y}} for Accelerate ({{N64|A}}).
*{{wiiu|B}} for Brake ({{N64|B}}).
*{{wiiu|X}} for change camera ({{N64|Up|C}})
*{{wiiu|Neutral|Lstick}} for control stick ({{N64|Neutral|Control}}).
*{{wiiu|Neutral|Rstick}} stick for the C Buttons.
*{{wiiu|Plus}} as a pause button ({{N64|Start}}).
