The Octobot L3.Gs is the tutorial boss in the Crater, and also being the first boss in Return of the Mammalians. The fight is much easier than the previous Octobot iterations, but still has the basic attacks like shooting it's hand, which can be relfected back, but it also has a couple new attacks.

Access[edit]

You can access the the Octobot L3.Gs by clearing the Fuzzy Ooze using one thousand Power Eggs collected from the previous Crater stages. Upon destroying the Fuzzy Ooze, a cut-scene instantly starts, transporting the player straight into the fight.

Phase One[edit]

Phase one consists of a simple loop of DJ Octavio firing is fist at the player using his Octobot King L3.Gs, which can be reflected back upon dealing enough damage. Occasionally, the Octobot King will switch which block it is standing on. After reflecting back his regular fist attack, he will launch a Drill Fist attack, which must be dodge, as it is only vulnerable to damage after hitting the ground. After knocking back one more regular fist after the Drill Fist attack, Octavio will be launched out of his Octobot and will be vulnerable to attack.

Phase Two[edit]

Upon starting the next phase, Octavio introduces a new attack, the Ink Vac. The Ink Vac will suck any of the ink that you fire, not allowing you to damage the fists. If the Ink Vac gets filled up, the Octobot will launch a small explosive at the player. The only way to damage any of the fists in this phase is by clogging the Ink Vac, by throwing Smallfry at it, allowing you to damage the fists. After a few attacks, the Octobot will release Smallfry, requiring you to clog the Ink Vac again. After a couple more hits, Octavio will be launched out of his Octobot agaiin, allowing you to damage him and reach the next, and final, phase.

Phase Three[edit]

Octavio's first attack of this phase is a completely new attack, where he launches his fist spread fingers wide. Unlike the Drill attack, the Slam attack can be reflected back before it hits the ground. Upon hitting the ground, the Slam releases a Wavebreaker like projectile, which must be jumped over to avoid taking damage. You are able to use Splashdown on the Slam fists, just like the previous fist attacks, but it will almost always result you in taking damage, unless if you activate it super early, due to the much more vertical arc the fist takes. After repeating a similar process to the previous phase, only with the addition of the slam attack, the DJ will be launched out of the Octobot for a third and final time, allowing you to splat him, ending the tutorial, and taking you to the main area of Alterna.
