SMB3

Hey there. At some point I was planning on working on Super Mario Bros. 3 and making it look similar to how I formatted Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan), and Super Mario Bros. 2. I don't want to interrupt your progress, and you're doing a great job with the maps, but I tend to mark them up with point indicators to make the walkthrough explanations easier to follow. So I wanted to check if you cared if I started editing your maps and the guides. I can wait until you get through a world before I start editing, or I can wait until you're done with the entire guide... either way, it will involve substantial editing, but I wanted to check with you first since you've been putting a lot of work into it. Let me know your thoughts. Do you plan to map out the entire game? Procyon 22:56, 26 December 2010 (CST)

Yes, I planned to go through the entire game. Of course, if you want to edit something, be it the maps or the text, that's fine with me. All those maps take some time to create so it might take a while until I'm done with all the levels in the game. -- 3155ffGd 08:34, 27 December 2010 (CST)

Important fact about SMB3

I see you're improving the Super Mario Bros. 3 walkthrough. I have an important fact. In World 4, please note that 4-6 comes before 4-5 notwithstanding the level numbers. Why?? 4-5 has a Tanooki Suit inside it. If you do 4-5 before 4-6, the duration of the period between the Tanooki Suit and the end of Iggy's airship is 3 1/2 levels (counting the duration from the Tanooki Suit to the end of 4-5 as 1/2 level,) which is too long. Doing 4-6 before 4-5 shortens it to 2 1/2 levels. But why does it need to be short?? The reason is that there's a special achievement of completing Iggy's Airship with the Tanooki Suit from 4-5. See the World 4 page of the SMB3 walkthrough for what it is. SMB3 fan 17:39, 27 December 2010 (CST)

I think you get that secret message if you complete any world while having the Tanooki Suit, not just World 4. There are other such messages for the Hammer Suit and also the Frog Suit (good luck defeating the Koopa Kid). -- 3155ffGd 17:42, 27 December 2010 (CST)
For the Hammer Suit message, the Hammer Suit is from 6-10. Because the duration from the Hammer Suit to the end of Lemmy's airship is only 2 1/2 levels, there's no need to adjust the order of the levels from numerical order. For the Frog Suit message, the Frog Suit is from 3-9, and so it's only 1 1/2 levels. SMB3 fan 17:45, 27 December 2010 (CST)
It could be added to a page such as Super Mario Bros. 3/Secrets, that way the information isn't cluttered across several worlds. This page doesn't exist yet but I added it to the table of contents. -- 3155ffGd 17:52, 27 December 2010 (CST) (addendum: I created the page and added the secret messages.)
Just another note, behind 4-6 there's a mushroom house which also offers a Tanooki Suit. You could just leave it until the end, then grab the suit and enter the castle. -- 3155ffGd 11:55, 28 December 2010 (CST)
Not necessarily true. Sometimes it is a Tanooki Suit; sometimes it is not. SMB3 fan 13:23, 28 December 2010 (CST)
You could, of course, just keep the Hammer you get in World 3 and then use it at the rock to the left of the pipe. That one is a guaranteed Tanooki Suit, and you can use it any time. -- 3155ffGd 13:34, 28 December 2010 (CST)
I know that, but please note that most people think the Canoe ride in World 3 is too interesting to skip. SMB3 fan 13:48, 28 December 2010 (CST)
It might really be a better idea to note this in Super Mario Bros. 3/Secrets like I suggested before. The messages are all there, it just needs the easy ways to see them (like, how you suggested, taking 4-6 before 4-5). -- 3155ffGd 13:50, 28 December 2010 (CST)
In contrast, is there any reason it makes sense to do 4-5 before 4-6 (independent of the level numbers)?? SMB3 fan 15:08, 28 December 2010 (CST)
4-5 is the harder of the two. If you get a game over in 4-5, you won't have to redo 4-6. -- 3155ffGd 15:11, 28 December 2010 (CST)
