Valkyrie no Densetsu/Stage 3
Once Valkyrie and Kurino Sandra have reached the ground after climbing down the ladder that appeared in the centre of their defeated Boss Tolento's platform, the travelling salesman Zoul will be standing in front of them; and once one player has walked up to him and entered his realm, the other one will automatically be drawn in as well. Once Valkyrie and Sandra have reappeared in Zoul's realm, he will speak the Hiragana text Irasshaimase (いらっしゃいませ) to them before asking the first player to choose between a 4-Way Shot (tail feathers) for 500 in gold, a Bomb (not one but three bombs) for 1000 in gold, and a Homing Shot (crossbow) for 2000 in gold - you must push your joystick into the "north-western" position to select the first item, the "northern" position to select the second item and the "north-eastern" position to select the third item then press the Firing Button to confirm your choice. Once Valkyrie has paid Zoul for her chosen special weapon, he will ask the second player to choose between the two remaining items; and you cannot push the joystick into the position of that absent item. Once Sandra pays Zoul for his chosen special item, both he and Valkyrie shall leave Zoul's realm (they can also do this voluntarily if they cannot afford to pay him by pushing the joystick into that "southern" position), and reappear in the stage proper.
Once Valkyrie and Sandra have reappeared in the stage proper, continue walking forward by pushing your joystick into the "northern" position as three Masks that are carved into the walls on the left and right sides of the screen reveal their true forms and breathe flames at you while ten Purple Goblins emerge from the ground and start walking towards you while throwing their spears at you; once you've fired a 4-Way, Bomb, or Homing shot from your sword or trident at each of the Purple Goblins to kill them, they will each leave a small coin (worth five in gold) behind. Once you've collected all these, continue walking to the right by pushing the joystick into the "east" position as seven Small Rocks drop down on you from their hanging platforms - and once you've fired a 4-Way, Bomb or Homing shot from your sword or trident at each of them to kill them, they will each leave a large coin (worth twenty in gold) behind. Once you have collected all these, you will come to a red chest and a blue chest; the red chest contains ten money bags (worth fifty in gold), but the blue chest contains a Blue Kaox, so you should be ready to fire a 4-Way, Bomb or Homing shot from your sword or trident at the Kaox to kill it once you have opened them both and collected all the money bags. It will leave four small coins behind when killed, and once you have collected them all, four more Purple Goblins will emerge from the ground, then start walking towards you while throwing their spears at you - and once you have fired a 4-Way, Bomb, or Homing shot from your sword or trident at each of these, to kill them, they will each leave a small coin behind. Once you have collected them all, you'll come to an Orange Honorian that is hovering up and down in the centre of the screen; once you have fired a 4-Way, Bomb or Homing shot from your sword or trident at it to kill it, it will leave a small coin behind. Once you've collected it you will have to jump onto a platform in a lake of lava as you'll come to two more Orange Honorians hovering around you in a clockwise direction - and once you fire a 4-Way, Bomb or Homing shot at both of them to kill them, they will each leave a small coin behind. Once you have collected both of these, you will have to jump onto a second platform in the lake of lava before proceeding to jump onto a third platform in the lake of lava as you will come to two more Orange Honorians that are hovering back and forth in the centre of the screen; once you've fired a 4-Way, Bomb, or Homing shot at both of these to kill them, they'll both leave a small coin behind. Once you've collected them both, you can blast a hole in the wall at the top of the screen - and once you have walked through that blasted hole in the wall, you will meet up with that elderly sorcerer Babasama for a third time as the song heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 fades out.
Once you have pushed your Firing Button to speak to Babasama, for a third time, he will speak the Hiragana and Katakana text Koko made kite kureta biggu nojutsuwosazukeyō. (ここまできてくれたビッグのじゅつをさずけよう) to Valkyrie and Sandra before proceeding to grant them the Big spell and four more circles on their magic meters (this spell is worth two full circles); they must then retrace their steps through that hole they have blasted in the wall and continue walking to the right by pushing the joystick into the "eastern" position until they come to two more Orange Honorians that are hovering up and down in the centre of the screen. Once you have fired a 4-Way, Bomb or Homing shot at both of them to kill them, they will both leave a small coin behind - and once you've collected them all, you will have to jump up onto a fourth platform in the lake of lava as a fourth Mask which is carved into the wall at the top of the screen reveals its true form and breathes flames at you before proceeding to jump onto a fifth platform in the lake of lava as a fifth Mask that is carved into the wall at the top of the screen reveals its true form, then breathes flames at you. Once you've done so, you shall have to jump onto a sixth platform in the lake of lava as a sixth Mask that is carved into the wall at the top of the screen reveals its true form and breathes flames at you, before proceeding to jump onto a platform on the other side of the lake of lava as seven more Small Rocks come dropping down on you from their hanging platforms; once you have fired a 4-Way, Bomb or Homing shot at each of them to kill them, they will each leave a large coin behind. Once you have collected them all, six more Purple Goblins will emerge from the ground and start walking up towards you while throwing their spears at you - and once you've fired a 4-Way, Bomb, or Homing shot at each of these to kill them, they will each leave a small coin behind. Once you have collected them all, continue walking forward by pushing the joystick into the "northern" position as nine more Purple Goblins emerge from the ground and start walking towards you while throwing their spears at you; once you have fired one 4-Way, Bomb or Homing shot from your sword or trident at each of them to kill them, they will each leave a small coin behind. Once you've collected all these, the door in that wall at the top of the screen will slide up - and once you have walked through it, you'll come to eight more Orange Honorians which are hovering in an anticlockwise direction around a captured ally of Valkyrie and Sandra ("Koakuman"). Once you've fired a 4-Way, Bomb or Homing shot from your sword or trident at each of these Orange Honorians to kill them they'll each leave a small coin behind; once you have collected all these, Koakuman will come to then start jogging on the spot. Once you have pushed your Firing Button, to speak to him, he'll speak a Hiragana and Katakana text of Atashi ha Koakuman yo tasukete kurete arigatō! Migi ha kiken ga ippai kuzureruki wo tsukete warui ndakedo isoganakucha jāne. (あたしはコアクマンよたすけてくれてありがとう! みぎはきけんがいっぱいくずれるきをつけてわるいんだけどいそがなくちゃじゃーね) to Valkyrie and Sandra before jogging off the bottom of the screen, leaving ten money bags behind as he does so; once you have collected them all, another door in that wall at the top of the screen will slide up. Once you have walked through it, continue walking to the left by pushing the joystick into the "western" position, as three more Purple Goblins emerge from the ground then start walking towards you while throwing their spears at you - and once you've fired a 4-Way, Bomb or Homing shot from your sword or trident at each of them to kill them, they will each leave a small coin behind. Once you have collected them all, you will have to walk around a square pool of lava as you come up to two more Orange Honorians that are hovering up and down in the centre of the screen; once you have fired a 4-Way, Bomb or Homing shot at both of them to kill them they will both leave a small coin behind. Once you have collected them both you will have to jump over a rectangular pool of lava as two more Purple Goblins emerge from the ground and start walking towards you while throwing their spears at you - and once you fire one 4-Way, Bomb, or Homing shot at both of these to kill them, they will both leave a small coin behind. Once you have collected them both you will come to two more Orange Honorians that are hovering up and down in the centre of the screen; once you've fired a 4-Way, Bomb, or Homing shot at both of these to kill them, they will both leave a small coin behind. Once you collect them both, you'll have to jump over another rectangular pool of lava, as two more Purple Goblins emerge from the ground and start walking towards you while throwing their spears at you - and once you've fired a 4-Way, Bomb or Homing shot at both of them to kill them, they will both leave a small coin behind. Once you have collected them both, you will have to jump over the fourth rectangular pool of lava as eight more Purple Goblins emerge from the ground and start walking towards you while throwing their spears at you - and once you have fired off a 4-Way, Bomb or Homing shot at each of them to kill them, they will each leave a small coin behind. Once you have collected them all you will have to jump onto a platform in another square pool of lava as three Magma Hands emerge from the bottom of the pool and try to grab you, then jump onto another platform in the lava pool as three more Magma Hands emerge from the bottom of the pool and try to grab you; once you have done so, you will have to jump onto a third platform in the lava pool, as three more Magma Hands emerge from the bottom of the pool and try to grab you before jumping onto the platform on the other side of the lava pool. Once you have done so, continue walking forward by pushing the joystick into the "north" position, as six more Masks that are carved into the walls on the left and right sides of the screen reveal their true forms and breathe flames at you, while six more Purple Goblins emerge from the ground then walk towards you while throwing their spears at you - and once you have fired a 4-Way, Bomb or Homing shot at each of the Purple Goblins to kill them, they will each leave a small coin behind. Once you have collected them all,you will come to the travelling salesman Zoul for a second time on the left side of the screen; again, when one player walks up to him and enters his realm, the other one will automatically be drawn in as well as the song heard from the Yamaha YM-2151 fades into his theme.
Once Valkyrie and Sandra have reappeared in Zoul's realm, he will speak the Hiragana text Irasshaimase (いらっしゃいませ) to them before proceeding to ask the first player to choose between: a Homing Shot (crossbow) for 1000 in gold, a Healing Herb (Doku Plant) for 1500 in gold, and Magic Book (spellbook) for 2000 in gold; push the joystick into the "north-west" position to select the first item, the "north" position to select the second item and the "north-east" position to select the third item, then press that Firing Button to confirm your choice. Once Valkyrie pays Zoul for her chosen item, he'll ask the second player to choose between the two remaining items - and you will once again not be able to push your joystick into the position of the absent item. Once Sandra has paid Zoul for his chosen special item, both he and Valkyrie shall again exit Zoul's realm, and reappear back in the stage proper.
Once Valkyrie and Sandra reappear in the stage proper, four Red Kaoxes will home in on them while gnashing their teeth rapidly; once you have fired a Homing shot from your sword or trident at each of these, to kill them, they will each leave four small coins behind. Once you have collected them all, the double doors in the wall at the top of the screen will open, and Valkyrie and Sandra will walk through them for their third boss encounter - and once they have reappeared inside the boss cavern, the camera will zoom out on them to account for the size of the Magma Dokusasu (which attacks by breathing flames from its mouth at Valkyrie and Sandra while shooting sixteen small fireballs from both of its crab-like claws) as the game's "boss" theme starts to be heard from that Yamaha YM-2151 for a third time. Once you have fired enough Homing shots from your sword or trident at it, to kill it, it will not leave anything behind; however, two red chests containing a randomly-generated amount of gold will appear on the platforms on the left and right sides of the screen. Once the first player has opened the one on the left and the second player has opened the one on the right, or either player has opened both of them - as there is nothing to stop them from doing so for double gold, the screen will fade out and you will receive a 20000-point bonus and 600 in gold, along with the restoration of a full life-heart (or if you still have 4.5 life-hearts, half of one) upon your energy meter if you were unlucky enough to get hit, and if this brings your energy back up to more than 0.5 or 1.5 life-hearts it gets reflected by your character's face at the bottom of the screen improving.
Once the screen has faded back in, it will immediately fade back out again as Valkyrie and Sandra automatically proceed to the fourth stage, Kogane no Jōseki; a knowledge of both of the Japanese syllabic writing systems is also essential if you wish to answer the Nazonazo Phantom's question correctly, as he will take a full life-heart from you if you get it wrong, and if you only have one life-heart (or even half of one) remaining, this will cost you the game.
