About Yoshi Touch & Go

Template:Infobox

What began as a simple technical demo, soon became a great example of what developers could achieve with the touch screen. Yoshi Touch & Go introduced a brand new way to play, and features an innovative method of touch screen use. Drag and tap the screen to control the actions of Yoshi and save both Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. The game itself isn't a complete game, but is more of a throw-back to old school games where the main objective was to achieve the highest score.

The Story

This is the story as described in the Yoshi Touch & Go game manual:

A lone stork flies hastily through the darkened pre-dawn skies. Held firmly in its beak is a very special package: a pair of newborn twins, which the stork is hurrying to deliver to their parents.

Just as the stork races through the skies over Yoshi's Island, something terrible happens! A dark shadow rushes toward the stork with tremendous speed and crashes into it! The startled stork drops the twin babies...

Game Modes

Yoshi Touch & Go features 5 different modes of play. Let's take a quick look at them:

  • Score Attack. In Score Attack, you have to score as many points as you can.
  • Marathon. Try to get as far through the ground area as possible. Your score is the distance traveled since the start of the game. This mode does not end until Yoshi is hurt.
  • Time Attack. Rescue Baby Luigi from the Toadies as quickly as possible.
  • Challenge. Travel through the ground area and get as far as you can. This mode does not end until time runs out.
  • Vs. Battle. Challenge a friend to see who can get to the finish line first. This mode supports single-card DS Download Play for two players.

Items

Here is a list of various items in the game that work to help Yoshi and Baby Mario.

- Coins -

  • Yellow Coins. Your standard coin, worth 1 point.
  • Blue Coins. A larger, blue colored coin, worth 2 points.
  • Red Coins. The biggest coin, red in color, worth 4 points.

- Others -

  • POW Block. Hy having this item drop onto solid ground, or by walking over it, it will destory any enemies currently on screen, and turn them into coins.
  • Super Star. Allows Baby Mario for a short period of time. Baby Mario is invincible and cannot be defeated.

- Fruit -

  • Apple. Have Yoshi eat this fruit to gain 1 additional egg.
  • Banana. Have Yoshi eat this fruit to gain 3 additional eggs.
  • Watermelon. Have Yoshi eat this fruit to gain 5 additional eggs.
  • Grapes. Have Yoshi eat this fruit to gain 10 additional eggs.
  • Melon. Have Yoshi eat this fruit to gain 20 additional eggs.

Unlockables

- Challenge Mode -

To unlock this mode, get past the 3000 meter mark in Marathon mode.

- Time Attack Mode -

To unlock this mode, get more than 300 points in Score Attack mode.

- Balloon Popping Mini-game -

To unlock the Balloon Popping mini-game, just get the top score on each single player mode. To start the minigame, tap one of the floating balloons that appear in the background of the title screen.

How to play: simply try to pop as many balloons as possible within the time limit. Continously popping balloons of similar color yield more points.

Tips and Tricks

- Tickle Baby Mario -

At the end of a sky level, Baby Mario will float to the bottom screen. During this time, you can tap Baby Mario to tickle him.

- Coins in Trees -

While Baby Mario is falling near the end of the sky level, you can tap the leaves of the trees to reveal more coins.

- Bonus Points -

Hitting multiple objects with a single egg (otherwise known as a combo) will earn you bonus points. The more enemies you hit, the more bonus points you will recieve.
