Yoshi Touch & Go/Walkthrough

From StrategyWiki, the video game walkthrough and strategy guide wiki

Each mode of gameplay has two portions to each level. First there is the Sky Section, where all you are doing is guiding Baby Mario to the ground safely. Then it is followed by the Ground Section, where Baby Mario is on Yoshi's back, and you have to keep Yoshi from hitting enemies, falling in pits, or other obstacles depending on the game mode.

Sky[edit]

Every one of the game modes begins here. All you have to do is get Baby Mario to the ground before all three of his balloons pop. That means you cannot allow Mario to come in contact with any of the enemies any more than 3 times. Depending on what mode you are in, you may be better off getting as many points as possible, or even zero points.

Score Attack[edit]

In Score Attack mode the whole goal is to get the most points, so it is best to get as many points as possible during the sky section.

Marathon[edit]

In Marathon mode, for the most part you want the fastest Yoshi you can get as early as possible, and that means getting a lot of points in the sky section.

Time Attack[edit]

In Time Attack mode getting 0 points means getting the Arctic Yoshi, which means you will have infinite eggs to throw at the toadies, which can give you the best score.

Challenge[edit]

In Challenge mode, getting 0 points gets you the Purple Yoshi who can carry 50 eggs. Your other option for getting 50 eggs is getting 160 or more points. The more eggs you have, the better your chance of getting a high score.

Tips for Points[edit]

The easiest way to get points is to make the clouds follow the coins as Baby Mario is falling. Then as he is following the clouds, you can circle enemies and coins, and send their bubbles up to Mario.

Ground[edit]

This is where the game splits off into the different gameplay modes. Each mode plays the same in regards to the controls, however they all have they're own goals that need to be accomplished. There are two big differences in gameplay with the change from the sky to the ground. You're now helping Yoshi with the clouds rather than Baby Mario himself, which means the screen will be scrolling left to right. Then, there is the fact that if you are hit even once by an enemy it is game over, so be careful.

Score Attack[edit]

Hitting as many enemies and coins as possible with one egg is the quickest way to boost your score, while the easiest is to just collect all the coins you can, and throw eggs at all the enemies you run into.

Marathon[edit]

The only thing that matters in this mode is distance. The faster Yoshi you begin with, the quicker you are able to run through the 1000 distance marks. Each 1000 distance gives you the next Yoshi up, all the way through Black Yoshi. You will want a fast Yoshi that can hold a lot of eggs so you can breeze through the areas while shooting down anything in the way. As long as you don't fall into pits, or are touched by any enemies you should make it a pretty fair distance.

Time Attack[edit]

Unlocking
To unlock this mode, get more than 300 points in Score Attack mode.

You need to shoot down all the Toadies that are carrying Baby Luigi. The more eggs you have the easier this is since having more eggs means you can throw more of them in the general area of the Toadies, and have a pretty fair chance to take down.

Challenge[edit]

Unlocking
To unlock this mode, get past the 3000 meter mark in Marathon mode.

You are racing against a timer to get as far as you possibly can. Every time you hit an enemy more time will be added up to 99 seconds.

Balloon-popping mini-game[edit]

Unlocking
To unlock the Balloon Popping mini-game, just get the top score on each single player mode. To start the minigame, tap one of the floating balloons that appear in the background of the title screen.

Simply try to pop as many balloons as possible within the time limit. Continuously popping balloons of similar color yield more points.
