Map of Irenicus' Dungeon with the locations

Setting Free Minsc and Jaheira[edit]

Now that Imoen is in your party it's time to free some fellows who can help you. Head north and east (x 4030 y 2760) and Minsc will talk to you. Enrage him by selecting options 1,2,3,1 and he will enter your party. You get 3000 XP for that.

Now you should free Jaheira. Go north (x 3900 y 2675) and talk to her. Agree freeing her if you want Jaheira in your party. You can't unlock the cell so you have to either find the key or use Minsc to break open the cell.

Killing the Golem

Despite the golem won't attack you, you can attack it. Your weapons don't work, but you can use magic.

Jailkeep Golem:

  • Hit Points: 50
  • AC: 7
  • THAC0: 9
  • Str: 20
  • EXP Value: 5000

Go left to the room there (x 3250 y 2850). Don't be worried with the golem. He won't attack you. The key is on the table. You can also find these items:

  • Long Sword
  • Short Sword
  • Quarterstaff
  • Mace
  • Battle Axe
  • Spear
  • Halberd
  • War Hammer
  • Two Handed Sword
  • Katana

Open the chest and you'll find the following items:

  • Helmet
  • Leather Armor
  • Studded Leather Armor
  • Small Shield
  • Splint Mail
  • Chain Mail Armor
  • Buckler
Detect and unlock the paiting to get the Dagger and the potions

Now use Imoen's detect trap to open the painting. There's a Dagger +1 and three Healing Potions within. Also, if you imported your character from Baldur's Gate 1 and it had the Golden Pantaloons, they'll be there.

Now open the north door (x 2865 y 2815) and you'll find your first enemy, a Smoke Mephit. Its HP is 27 and it gives you 420 exp upon death. If you keep walking north you'll find another door, but you can't open it, so head back to the torture room and release Jaheira; you'll receive 3000 exp.

Finding Rielev[edit]

Click twice on control panel to deactivate the machine.

Go southwest. Follow the passage and you'll enter in a room with a Lightning Machine (x 2650 y 3160) which summons Lightning Mephits and shoot Lighting Bolts at you. You can deactivate the machine to stop it from summoning and attacking; simply click twice on its control panel (x 2835 y 3060) to deactivate the machine. Remember that you must be near the object to do this. You get 2000 XP for that. Note that in the next room you'll be healed, so killing Mephits is a good opportunity to gather experience (420 exp).

Continue your way and you'll find Aataqah, a genie. You can just ignore him if you want. Otherwise he give you two options: if you pick "Push the buttom" he will summon an Ogre Mage (650 exp) and you also get 3500 exp. If you pick the other option he will summon four Gibberlings and you get 3500 exp too.

Now head west (x 1450 y 2660). You will find goblins here. They're very weak, but the archers (the last two) could do big damages with the arrows. So focus on killing first the archers before attacking the others.

The passage will lead to a fork. Go left first (x 600 y 2400). You will find a Steam Mephit (420 exp) here. At the end of the room there's an Ice Mephit. There are also three containers: a crate (x 675 y 2705), a barrel (x 825 y 3045) and a trapped crate (x 1033 y 3025) where you find these items:

  • Quarterstaff +1
  • 6 Bullets
  • 1 Gold
  • 5 Arrows
  • Short Bow

Now head right (x 890 y 2200). Here there you'll find a Golem and a Radiation Mephit (420 exp). Talk with the Golem pretending you're its master. Tell it to open the doors and it informs you that you need a special gem to active it. You can just pickpocket it to get the key, but you'll lose exp.

There are four containers in this room: the center table, another table and bookcase to the left, and a chest to the right where you find:

  • War Hammer
  • Medium Shield
  • 2 Scimitars
  • Long Sword +1
  • 3 Potions of Extra Healing
  • Spear
  • Spell Magic Scroll
  • 4 Arrows

Now head north and enter the first door (x 520 y 2000). Here you will find a couple of lesser Clay Golems. As the others they won't attack you. If you want killing them use blunt weapons. The others types of weapon doesn't work. You get 2000 exp for each Golem.

Continue your way and the corridor will lead to a door (x 1010 y 1745) and a battle with more goblins. Focus on the archers. Now open the door. Here you will find Rielev in a tube. If you agree freeing him and the others in the tubes you will receive a Crystal to revive the others and 4000 exp. On the table you find the Golem's Activation Stone. And the barrel (x 1275 y 1400) contains:

  • 2 Healing Potions
  • Sling
  • 8 Bullets
  • Halberd
  • War Hammer

Now head back to the Sewage Golem and pretending you're its master give it the stone. He will run to open the doors. You might want revive the creatures in the tubes, but this is not necessary.

Exploring the Dungeon[edit]

Now all the doors have been unlocked by the golem and you can explore all of the dungeon. Head back to the corridor where you found Rielev and head northeast to enter the library (x 1040 y 1085).

Here you'll find a more difficult fight: some goblins and two mephits: a smoke and a fire mephit (each one 420 exp). Use the same tactic: focus on the archers, but do not forget the Mephits, because they can put you into a lot of trouble.

After the battle grab the loot. Here you'll find these items on the bookshelves:

  • Agni Mani Necklace (x 950 y 760)
  • Larloch's Minor Drain (x 850 y 850)
  • 5 Healing Potions (x 850 y 850)
  • Know Alignment (x 1050 y 820)
  • Oil of Speed (x 1450 y 820)
  • Potion of Extra Healing (x 1650 y 950)

Now take the south passage at the library to reach the sewer. Here you'll find an Otyugh (650 exp), which can cast Disease and Slow on your characters. In its body you find the Wand of Frost Key; there's no use for it until the other part of this dungeon. There's also three chests: one is trapped (?) and will release darts at you. Its contains:

  • Oil of Speed
  • Splint Mail
  • 7 Potions of Healing
  • Light Crossbow
  • 10 Bolts
  • Vocalize scroll
  • Helm of Infravision
  • Clairvoyance scroll

Continue through the passage above the chests. Kill more goblins and enter at Irecunis' room.

Be careful with the traps on this room

This room is fully of traps. There's one on the carpet (x 3695 y 1013) and two on the containers (x 3554 y 884; x 3927 y 969).

Here you'll find:

  • Chromatic Orb scroll
  • Air Elemental Statue
  • Metaspell Influence Amulet
  • Wand of Lightning Key
  • Burning Hands scroll
  • Helm of Balduran

Also, if you imported from BG1 the Helm of Balduran will be replaced by one of these (aleatory):

  • The Claw of Kazgaroth
  • The Horn of Kazgaroth
  • Koveras' Ring of Protection

Now go southeast to find Dryads. Agree helping them. But before doing this head south to enter another room (x 3500 y 2150).

As the room before this chamber is fully of traps. First, when you enter it an alarm goes off sending the Golems out this way. There's no way to escape this trigger. Just be prepare to face the golems soon (if you already didn't killed it).

The four cointainers here have:

  • Potion of Extra Healing
  • Bracers of Defense AC 8
  • Pommel Jewel of the Equalizer
  • Portal key
  • Potion of Master Thievery
  • Monster Summoning I scroll
  • Dire charm scroll

With the Portal Key you can go to next level, just by taking the portal at north of Irecunis' room. But there's still the Dryads quest and more to explorate, so head back to the library.

Go northwest and through the passage until its leads to a room with 6 duergars. There's no way to escape this fight, so don't bother yourself using diplomacy. Kill first the mage and the archers. They can cause a lot of troubles.

The duergar chef has the acorns you're looking for. There's also 5 containers here, which have:

  • Chain Mail Armor
  • Helmet
  • Medium Shield
  • Battle Axe
  • Two Handed Sword
  • Grease scroll
  • 2 Throwing Daggers
  • 3 Darts
  • 5 Throwing Axes
  • 4 Potions of Extra Healing
  • Bastard Sword
  • Long Sword
  • Short sword
  • 6 Arrows
  • Short Bow
  • Club
  • 2 Flail
  • Morning Star
  • War Hammer
  • Leather Armor
  • Helmet
  • Small Shield
  • Quarterstaff
  • Sling
  • 40 Bullets
  • Scimitar

Return the acorns to the dryads. They tell you need take the acorns to Windspear Hills and give to their king. You receive 9500 exp for this.

Now past the duergar's room. Be careful with a trap here. You'll reach a room with a machine and a Cambion trapped in a bubble. Until you free the Cambion he cannot attack you, so heal your characters, because this fight is a little more difficult than the others. Click twice on the machine to release the Cambion:

Cambion:
HP: 50
AC: 2
THAC0: 15
Number of attacks: 7
