In this mode, the screen will flip to face Players 3 and 4 when they pick their team, score a goal, and take a penalty shot, and both chosen teams will say the same two Japanese texts (that differ from their Tournament Mode ones when they are controlled by the CPU) to each other at the start of the match:
Once you have pressed that 2 Player Button to initiate Versus Mode (in which up to four players, two for each team, can compete against each other on one round), the team selection theme will again start to be heard from the Yamaha YM-2151; once Players 1 and 2 have selected a team to take control of, Players 3 and 4 must select a different team to take control of, which can be unfortunate if the one that Players 1 and 2 chose the one they wanted to take control of. All four players will then have to decide whether they want their teams to be comprised of either three (LW controlled by Players 1 and 3, RW and GK controlled by Players 2 and 4) or five (LW and LD controlled by Players 1 and 3, RW, RD and GK controlled by Players 2 and 4) members - and you must make a group decision to choose the number that would be most comfortable to play with. Your chosen teams will then have to face each other over three periods (the gameplay is the same as that of Tournament Mode, but the scoreboard will display the Kanji/Katakana text Dai ichi/ni/san piriodo kaishi 第一/二/三ピリオド開始 at each period's start and a different Kanji/Katakana text Dai ichi/ni/san piriodo shūryō 第一/二/三ピリオド終了 at the end of each period), and the losing team of each period will also be forced to insert the additional coin, if they wish to continue playing and have another chance to get back at their opponents; the game will also end after just one round to ensure that the players do not spend more than 300 yen in a single sitting, and features a different ending sequence to that of Tournament Mode which depicts the five members of the winning team skating into view from the right side of the screen, and exclaiming the Kanji/Hiragana text of Katta! Katta! (勝った! 勝った!), while the five members of the losing team stick their tongues out at them in the background and speak the Hiragana text Kuyashī... (くやしい...), along with the re-used Hiragana/Kanji text Mō 1 kai (もう1回).
