For the most part, the NES conversion of the game is relatively accurate to the Arcade version, in that both are incredibly difficult.  However, there are a few subtle differences that are worth noting.

* There is no Ultimate Athena in the NES version.  Likewise, there are no power-up platforms.  However, in the platform's place, there is one mushroom in a similar position in the first world where Athena may squat down to receive all the apparel necessary to form Ultimate Athena, as described above.

* Two of the weapons have changed.  First, the Magic Tome no longer fires an orb of magic that ultimate explodes.  Instead, it fires an orb straight ahead just like the Scroll does, only the Magic Tome can destroy two rows of blocks instead of just one like the Scroll.  Similarly, the Flame Arrow cannot be shot at a rapid fire rate.  However, it can destroy an entire row of blocks just like the Scroll.
* The arrangements of the worlds have changed slightly.  In some cases, you will be forced to change levels where you were not forced to in the Arcade version, such as the first world.  In other worlds, you will need items that you did not need in the Arcade version to complete them.  For example, you need the Wing of Pegasus to complete the second world.

* Some items are missing.  Instead of collecting the Shoes of Icarus, Athena is assumed to be wearing them at all times and cannot lose them.  There is also no Red Crystal Gem.  As a result, the Ryukaons never disappear.  Furthermore, it is not necessary to possess one when beating the fifth boss in order to collect Pandora's Box.  However, the strategy for the fifth boss has been altered, and only one particular weapon will work.  Finally, there is one additional item, the broken hourglass, but it is a cursed item that will reduce the amount of time you have left.
