Players[edit]
Bugutte[edit]
You only get to play as Bugutte for the first of the four stages. Playing as Bugutte can be a little easier than playing as Takahashi on account of Bugutte's wings. Although gravity will slowly pull her back down to the ground, she can easily overcome it simply by pushing up on the control pad. Her ability to fly also makes it easier to search for hidden eggs since it's easier to rain down projectiles and scour the sky in search of them. Her projectiles are a pair of orbiting hearts. Bugutte has a life meter, but most of the enemy attacks can remove more than one bar from her meter at a time, so she can only sustain a few hits before she will lose a life. She does not have to fight any bosses, her only mission is to collect the eight letters that form the password to the building where Takahashi is being held captive, and rescue him.
Takahashi[edit]
After you rescue him as Bugutte, you will control Takahashi for the remaining three stages of the game. Lacking the benefit of wings, Takahashi moves in a more traditional manner, running along the ground and jumping up to platforms above. His regular weapon is a stone throwing ax which cannot remove rocks or fires from the ground. He will only be able to clear those obstacles if he powers up his weapon to fireballs. Takahashi has a health meter which functions just the same as Bugutte's. Many enemies can reduce the meter by a number of bars per hit, so it's better to be proactive and remove them from the screen before they have a chance to attack him.
Items[edit]
Throughout the action portion of the game, you can collect items. As Bugutte, you will collect items from the candy containers, shown to the left, and as Takahashi, you will collect them from the lanterns shown to the right. When shot, there is a small random chance that they will drop one of the items below, but it is more likely that they will not drop any item. Candy and lanterns will always return when their original locations are scrolled off of the screen and back on, so theoretically, you can leave and return to a single container as often as you like.
Eggs[edit]
In order to enter the paddle stages to find the letters that contribute to the password that will enable to you exit the stage, you must discover the locations of hidden eggs. There are ten eggs hidden in each action stage. Some eggs are hidden in the main body of the stage, other eggs are hidden inside buildings or other structures that you must visit. Eggs return to their hiding spots once that location has scrolled off the screen and back again, just like items, and can be collected multiple times. Eight of the eggs lead to legitimate stages where you can collect password letters. One of the hidden eggs will flash, and you can collect this egg to see the current state of your password. Finally, the tenth egg leads to a paddle stage known as Hell. There are no blocks to break in this stage, you will simply have a difficult time maneuvering the ball out of the stage so that you can return to the action portion of the game play. Once you identify the Hell egg, never collect it again.
