Wangan Midnight: Maximum Tune 5 DX is a racing arcade game put out by Bandai Namco Games in 2015; as its name suggests it's the tenth title in the Wangan Midnight series. Much like in its seven immediate predecessors, the name "Maximum Tune" refers to the "Maximum Tuning Memory Cards" which were dispensed by the cabinet - and data stored on a card for any of those earlier entries may also be transferred over to one for this game. Furthermore, there are eighty-four selectable cars that may be tuned up to improve the way they look and perform (as well as what they are capable of); as with Maximum Tune 2, 3, 3 DX, 3 DX Plus, 4, and 5, it is also only possible to tune a car up in Story Mode (for which the original characters from the manga comics the games are based on will appear as CPU-controlled opponents and the player needs to beat them in a race). Additional modes in this instalment include Alter-Ego Battle Mode (where an alternate version of the player's chosen car is created and they must run against it, and it is for a sixth time also possible for the player to perform "Dress-Up Tuning" and change the appearance for their car here), In-Store Intrusion Match Mode (which was originally "Intrusion Mode" prior to the aforementioned Maximum Tune 4 being released in 2011, for which up to four people can play simultaneously when a maximum of four single-player cabinets or a pair of two-player cabinets are linked together), and Time Attack (in which the player must select a track, and try to complete a full lap of it in the fastest time) - and much like Maximum Tune 2, 3, 3 DX, 3 DX Plus, 4 and 5, players can again attain "levels" determined by their progress and "titles" determined by their style of playing, of which there are over 5000 combinations. For the seventh time, on attaining a new title (which will be seen in the screen's bottom-right corner during gameplay), the game will ask a player if they want to overwrite their current one on their Maximum Tuning Memory Card; as such, if they happen to prefer their current title they earned at a previous date, it is possible for them to decline. Once again, when this title was new, arcade operators who purchased a cabinet of it would also gain an upright "Wangan Terminal" with a touch panel, which players could use for three minutes free of charge (however, if they had to use it for a longer time, they would have to insert a coin into it to continue) to check the data stored on their Memory Card and, if they so desired, replace the parts that they had received for their selected car in the game.
