Asphalt pavers are for road construction and refurbishing. While some missions have you pave over compressed gravel for a newly formed road, and others require you to pave over existing, milled asphalt, the method is the same.
All pavers drive on tracks, and thus use track controls.
The front hopper must be first filled with asphalt from an asphalt dump truck (normal dump trucks cannot carry asphalt). Keep in mind that asphalt has its own geometry in-game, and so you can fit more asphalt into the hopper by trying to evenly spread it around. They can also be automatically filled using the context menu.
Asphalt pavers have a paving screed that extends the size of the area paved. The screed also makes the vehicle larger and thus more likely to get caught on obstacles, so retract the screed when you need to manoeuvre. In cases where you've missed a spot while paving, it is possible to pave normally with the screed retracted.
It is not possible to pave in reverse - paving will automatically be cancelled.
Asphalt pavers have a considerable capacity, though not as much as the asphalt dump truck.
Official Description: Asphalt pavers are used for applying fresh asphalt layers in road construction. They run on tracks and are often used after the old layer has been removed by the cold milling machine. To asphalt a road, the receiving hopper must be filled with sufficient asphalt. The paving screed, which brings the asphalt onto the road, can be extended if necessary to lay a wider asphalt surface with it. Asphalting is only possible when driving forward.
