You will begin the game in the north west corner of the ocean. The first pirate ship which you must challenge is located far to the east, just above Ookami Island. Set sail to the east and continue to travel that way until you get the warning sign to stop. Then head due south until the pirate ship and the island below it come into view. Then pilot your ship into the same location as the pirate ship.

As your first pirate ship sequence, you should take some time to familiarize yourself with the controls of the game. Get used to picking up barrels and quickly turning around in order to throw it at your pursuers. More often than not, this becomes an essential life saving technique. You may attack the treasure chests found on the ship and collect their contents, but please note that within the game, all ships share the same treasure chests. Once the contents of a chest have been taken, they are occupied by an enemy every time you attack them again. Once you collect the items from the two treasure chests, they will always spawn pirates if they are attacked for the rest of the game.

Once you defeat 15 pirates, the gate to the fifth screen on the right will open, allowing you to proceed to challenge the captain of the ship for the Cuck Island key. Refer to the strategies on the [[Higemaru Makaijima/Walkthrough|Walkthrough]] page for more information on the best way to fight against the captain. Once you have the key, you will exit the ship and are free to set sail again.

The entrance to the island is not very far to the north of your current location, and only slightly to the west. Enter the gate to be granted access to Cuck Island. You begin in the north east corner of the island, and the boss is located in the opposite corner. Along the way, there are several treasure chests for you to examine and collect the life point granting fruit and POW icons that they provide. Cuck Island is somewhat maze like with a number of branching pathways, some of which lead to dead ends. A special hidden island can be particularly difficult to find if you don't know where to look, but it's worth the effort to find (see below).

Among the enemies that you will encounter here, you will find the large Bush who wander around and make easy targets. Then there are the spear throwing Yhary who will throw their spear at you once they line up horizontally with you. You will also encounter the Bongo who, unlike most enemies, have the ability to fight back by picking up rocks and throwing them as well. Concentrate on removing these first. A few old men on the island will provide you with a few clues about an island that you will visit in the future, and a monolith at the top only offers a mystery until you can find a way to translate the letters inscribed upon it.

The boss is called Moribito. Fighting against him is quite a lot like fighting against the captain of the pirate ship. In fact, it's even easier since the axes that he throws are unable to block the rocks that you throw. When he attacks you, he showers you with a number of axes, all of which spread out as they fall. If you stay near the bottom of the screen, you have the best chance to avoid the axes as they fall. Since his attacks cannot stop yours, you should feel free to throw rocks at him whenever you are lined up and have a good shot at him. Once defeated, the column of bushes to the left will disappear, allowing you to visit the screen to the left. Here, you will only find a man who tells you about Death Island.

Instead of returning all the way to the Island entrance, every Island has a hole on it which, when fallen through or jumped into, will send you to the entrance immediately. They are often located in close proximity to the island boss, and can serve as a nice short cut back to your ship. The hole on Cuck Island is located a bit to the north above the boss' location. Jump into the hole surrounded by grass from the bottom, and you will find yourself back at the island gate. Proceed north to set sail for the next pirate ship.

Along the way to the boss, you would have passed through two screens which each contain four trees and no enemies. The hidden item can be found in the north screen. If you pick up rocks and toss them at the space below the upper right tree four time, the famous Capcom Yashichi will appear. Collecting this popular icon will award Momotaru with 10,000 additional life points!

;MSX2 Version Differences:The Yashichi can be obtained by throwing four rocks on the bottom-left tree, next to the far-bottom left one. Go down one screen from where the symbol appeared in the Famicom version.}}
