Book-Spells

Where to find spells and how to use them.

Name Location Recommended Usage
Meteor Shower Chapter 1 Use while shielded, or under cover
Revive Chapter 1 Use when allies are dead
Haste Chapter 1 Use to run faster
Grease Chapter 1 -- across the river outside the castle Not very useful. Grease can be set on fire.
Rain Chapter 2 -- in goblin cave Makes things wet. When shielded, you won't get wet—but enemies will. Perfect target for a thunderbolt!
Nullify Chapter 2 -- next to goblin shaman Good for stopping thunderstorms!
Thunderbolt Chapter 3, middle of Stonehenge (after airship ride) Massive damage (5000). Wet targets take double damage.
Tornado At very beginning of Chapter 4, in forest to left of path
Conflagration In burning inn of Chapter 4 (the detour inn) A damage-over-time spell. Takes a lot of button presses to cast (FAFFAFFA) -- only use if you have room to run, or on a large horde.
Time Warp At beginning of Chapter 5, on far left at first checkpoint A very useful spell. Gives you much more time to do things.
Blizzard At the very beginning of Chapter 6, on a tiny island on the right. Makes everything cold
Teleport Chapter 7, to far left of the place where you start. Also Chapter 1 (must bomb up tower across river) Teleport to mouse location
Thunderstorm Chapter 8, in a cave Kills everything, especially the caster, pretty quickly. Use from undercover.
Summon Phoenix Chapter 8, after bridge battle with troll, along the bottom path Summons a phoenix which dive-bombs the casting position. Move or rock-shield after casting.
Raise Dead Chapter 9, in room with four wizards Summons 4 allied zombies with poison vomit. Can be killed with Nullify, useful for distraction. More than 30 zombies can be summoned at the same time by a player (as of 2011-01-29). Zombies are healed by Arcane and damaged by Life. Thunderbolts target enemies first.
Fear Chapter 9, Vampire Castle foyer, top left (in bookcase)

Useful Element Combinations

The strongest combo of them all is Q S D spammage, simply hammer all buttons+ mouse button to unleash a spray that can kill fafnir before his first attack. Doesnt hurt mobs carrying shields though.

The strongest combo vs tougher shielded mobs is QRQRESA and apply to weapon. The largest mobs (aside from bosses) can take 2 hits from this one, and all other mobs aside from some spellcasters die on 1. It's very effective to charge up your weapon and carry the spell with you.

The Thunderbolt elements (Water + Fire + Lighting + Arcane + Lightning) make a powerful beam or AOE; adding a shield makes powerful bombs. Charge up your sword as well.

Spamming rock+fire or water+cold or arcane+rock is a good way to take care of weak groups of monsters.

Shield + Rock + Rock + Rock + Rock is useful to give you time to recover. Use as an area of effect for an encircling wall (more rock makes the wall stronger). Use on self to turn into a rock for a bit (very high defense—you can even withstand a direct lightning hit like this. Be sure to cast this multiple times to keep renewing your rock. You can prepare your next spell in safety like this).

Water + Cold makes Ice.

Water + Fire makes Steam.

Use Ice + Ice + Lightning + Arcane + Shield for a defensive AOE.

Rock makes useful area-effect projectiles. Pair it with a few Arcanes (and charge it for a second or so to make sure you don’t damage yourself). Use cold rocks to freeze water, or iced rocks for spiky projectiles or walls.

Staff of Fire Chapter 8, in the mine, on the right-hand side of the chasm. Fire immunity

Staff of Invisibility Chapter 8, 3rd area of mines, on rocky outcrop right next to checkpoint. Bridges lead to it; it’s easier to teleport. Casts invisibility on self. Monsters ignore / stop attacking; invisibility lost on cast / attack.

Moose locations

  1. Chapter 1, at beginning of path North outside castle.
  2. Chapter 2, just inside Fornskogur Forest (north of Halldor)
  3. Chapter 2, screen after killing Goblin Shaman (on the right)
  4. Chapter 3, down slightly and to the right of the Thunderbolt book location
  5. Chapter 4, just above crashed airship, before entering town
  6. Chapter 5, just before first wizard battle, just south of smashed cart in snowy-earth field (just before the icy-river battle)
  7. Chapter 6, after big statue (on far left, just below checkpoint)
  8. Chapter 8, third area of mines (just after killing goblin shaman, at the top left)
  9. Chapter 9, in Vampire Castle, above foyer fireplace
  10. Chapter 10, far right of spawning area, behind a rock formation

Other Useful Hints

Cast Shield on yourself. Healing when shielded recharges the shield, not your health. The shield also allows you to stay dry in wet areas (rain, rivers) which makes casting spells involving lightning much easier.

Grab the Staff of Life (looks like a plant) from next to the "Rat" woman in Chapter 2 -- its healing aura is very helpful.

Beams can be steered faster by holding the mouse cursor close to your character.

Putting up a strong rock wall all around you can prevent you from getting swarmed, and allows you to heal and choose a target. Firing the thunderbolt beam breaks the rock only in one place and then kills the target.

Notes

  • Explore north of Gunpowder Town during fight (only time this area is accessible)
  • Check staffs in Chapter 6 Mind Battle
