In the game, the character must guide the cat through several different locations around the world. He must accomplish this in 80 "days." One day passes in the game approximately every minute, although certain items can subtract the number of remaining days, providing you with less time to complete the game. If 80 days are up before the player finishes the trip, the game is over no matter how many lives the player has remaining. | Nagagutsu o Haita Neko: Sekai Isshuu 80 Nichi Dai Bouken, which roughly translates to Puss-in-boots: Around the World in 80 Days Adventure, is a game developed by Shouei System and published by Toei Animation for the Famicom in 1986. The main character is the Puss-in-boots character from the tale of a cat helping an impoverished master attain wealth through its trickery.

The play can jump, and throw a sword in front of him. Different boots can be collected along the way. Some are power ups, and can enhance things like increasing that cat's jump height, or speed. Some give penalties like subtracting days. The cat runs through many of the stages, but some stages provide alternate methods of transportation, such as a car or a submarine. Many stages end with a giant dragon head that must be defeated in order to advance.
