Elnard / The 7th Saga
Characters
Characters in most role-playing video games can be classified according to three attributes, therefore using a Triangle Diagram (copyright: Abacos)
Top | Strength | Characters with limited or no magic powers. |
Bottom | Magic | Characters with strong magic powers. |
Left | White Magic | Characters with strong healing magic and almost no direct attacks. |
Right | Black Magic | Characters with strong direct attack magic and almost or no healing magic. |
In this videogame every character can use at least a little bit of magic, so the top corner is empty.
Wilme and Lejes look slightly different in the videogame because the sprites used here come from the original Japanese version.
Character Analysis
Esuna Busy, the Elf
The best spellcaster, she can learn 16 different spells from both white and black magic, but her equipment is very light.
Valsu Saizer, the Human
The white mage, he can learn 16 spells (15 white and 1 black), but has limited equipment.
NOTE: late in the videogame he learns the Elixir spell, that completely heals Health & Magic Points, including casting cost!
Lejes Rimul, the Demon
The black mage, he can learn 16 spells (14 black and 2 white), and also has a fair choice of weapons, but limited armors.
Kamil Dowonna, the Human
The average guy, with good choice of equipment, and also 12 spells from both white and black magic.
Olvan Jaess, the Dwarf
A good fighter, who can also learn 10 spells, mostly white.
Lux Tizer, the Tetujin
Mainly a fighter, but has a few black spells, highest health points and defense growth of all characters. (Tetsujin means "Man of Metal" in Japanese)
Wilme Pelin, the Alien
Fastest character, all attributes high except magic, though spells and equipment are few in selection.

Suggested Teams
The player starts with one character, but in the second chapter he can join forces with a second one. A good team has members that compensates each other, i.e. that are not near in the Character Class Triangle.
Wilme and Valsu
WILME is the strongest attacker, but his magic power is the meekest. VALSU is the best white mage, but his attack abilities are the most limited.
Simple strategy: Wilme attacks, Valsu defends and heals.
Lux and Esuna
LUX is a strong attacker, but his magic is very monotonous. ESUNA has the widest array of magic spells, but her physical abilities are weak.
If they both attack using magic, the monsters would hardly resist. Remember that Esuna should save some magic points to heal both.
Olvan and Lejes
OLVAN is a fighter with a good bit of white/healing spells. LEJES is a spellcaster with a lot of black/attack spells.
They use the same swords and armors, but buyng two of each would be a waste of money. Since Lejes would better attack using magic, let Olvan have the best swords (and axes), and give Lejes what's dismissed. Also, since Lejes is physically weaker than Olvan, give the former the best armors and the latter the secon best ones.
Kamil and...
KAMIL is the average guy, who can do a bit of everything but does not excel in anything.
He can team up pretty much with anyone. The player could try a solo adventure with him, or change his partner whenever there is the opportunity.
Equipment
Equipment can be divided not only into weapons, armors and shields, but also according to the characters:
- Wilme and Lux can use almost no equipment.
- Olvan, Kamil and Lejes can use similar heavy equipment.
- Valsu and Esuna can use similar light equipment.
Exceptions exist, of course: in fact, Kamil can use Rods and Lejes cannot use shields.

White Magic
About the "Type" column (classification based on Sun-Tzu's book "The Art of War"):
- Peace spells are spells that can be used outside battle;
- Support spells are battle spells that target the allies;
- Debuff spells are battle spells that target the enemies but deal no damage;
- Attack spells are battle spells that deal damage to the enemies.
The White Wizard is an evolution of the White Mage and can use any spell that the White Mage can use. Therefore, the White Mage in the "User" column means that both White Mage and Wizard can use a spell. The same is true for the Red Mage and Wizard.
