Controls

• Mouse: On a menu, you have to use your computer's mouse to direct the lime-green cursor around the screen, then click on its left button while the cursor is over an option to activate it; on the title screen you can also press Enter to proceed to the Main Menu (and once on the Main Menu, you may also use the up and down arrow keys to select an option, then press Enter to confirm it). On the character (and track, in the case of both the "Single Race" and "Time Trial" modes) selection screen, you can also use all four arrow keys to select a character (or track), then press Enter to confirm your choice - however, if the character (or track) that you have selected is currently locked, trying to confirm your choice will have no effect.
• Arrow Keys: By default, you must use the up arrow key to make your picked character accelerate their car, the down one to make them decelerate their car, and the left and right ones to make them steer their car left and right; however, the steering for Calamity James's car is reversed, so if you want to race with him, you may wish to change the controls in the "Configure Keyboard or Peripheral" application to make his car's steering normal.
• A: By default, you must use this key to activate the accumulated boost pickups of your chosen character's car (displayed under the speedometer which is in the bottom-right corner of the screen during the physical gameplay scenes); the cars can hold a maximum of six boost pickups at a time.
• Z: By default you must use this key to fire the currently-held weapon of your chosen character's car (displayed in the top-left corner of the screen during gameplay); you'll have no choice but to do this if you want to collect another weapon pickup, as the cars can only hold one weapon at a time.
• C: By default you must use this key to change the camera view; it comes in useful after you have activated either the "bigbod" or "bigcar" cheats.
• Space: By default, you must use this key to make your chosen character sound their car's horn and warn a CPU-controlled racer they're coming.
• Esc: By default you must use this key to pause the game; once you do so, a menu featuring Wilfrid from The Bash Street Kids will appear on the screen featuring the options "CONTINUE GAME", "RESTART RACE" (if playing "Single Race" mode), and "QUIT GAME". Selecting "QUIT GAME" while in "Beanotown Championship" mode shall cause its option on the Main Menu to be replaced with two others ("CONTINUE CHAMPIONSHIP" and "NEW CHAMPIONSHIP") while selecting it in "Time Trial" mode shall cause the game to return to that mode's menu on the track you selected.
