Controls[edit]

Side scrolling[edit]

  • Neutral dpad: Use the direction pad to control the player. Press left or right to walk in either direction. Press down to squat, and press up to open a door in the background. Up and down may also be used to climb the central staircase.
  • A button: Press the A button to make the player jump.
  • B button: Press the B button to attack with the currently selected weapon.
  • Start button: Press the Start button to begin a new game or to pause the action mid-game. While paused, press A button or B button to receive a password for your current progress.
  • Select button: Press the Select button to cycle through the four possible weapons. The weapon which appears alone to the left at the top of the screen is the weapon which is currently activated.

Room investigation[edit]

  • Neutral dpad: Use the direction pad to position the cursor throughout the room. Push it off to the left or right sides of the room view to turn ninety degrees in either direction. Push it off the top of the room view to perform an 180 degree about-face.
  • A button: Press the A button to perform the currently selected task (see below).
  • B button: Press and hold the B button and press Up dpad or Down dpad to cycle through the list of the four available tasks.
  • Start button: The Start button does nothing in room investigation mode. Note that you are not necessarily safe by staying in a room indefinitely. So if you wish to pause the game, exit the room.
  • Select button: Same as in side scrolling mode, press the Select button to cycle through your weapon choices.

Player[edit]

You control the player, Michael Chaos, as he explores the mysterious mansion in an effort to find out the unknown fate of his brother. In the beginning of the game, Michael starts out with a knife and no other weapons, and 99 points of health. As Michael investigates rooms, he can find ammunition for other weapons such as guns and machine guns, or grenades. He can also find life restoring potions. Michael loses health whenever he is attacked by an enemy creature. If Michael loses all of his health, he will die, but you will be given the opportunity to continue from where you left off. During the game, it is possible to collect items which will extend the maximum amount of health that Michael can contain at any given time. Michael cannot jump very high without the aid of the Jump Shoes. Nor can he withstand being in water and not take any damage unless he possesses the Air Helmet. Michaels goal is to explore the mansion and locate all 11 zones. He must defeat and collect laser gun pieces from the first 10 zone bosses, and then use the fully assembled laser gun to defeat the boss of the 11th and final zone.

Exploring rooms[edit]

Dr. Chaos room view.png

In order to find the location of the various zone entrances, Michael must explore the various rooms in the mansion. When he enters a room, the view changes from a side scrolling action view to an exploratory first person view. In this view, Michael can face any one of the four cardinal directions; North, South, East, and West. His current direction is indicated by the letter in the small box on the bottom right corner of the screen. You can interact with various objects in the room through the use of the cursor, which looks like a pointing hand. While in a room, there are four commands which are available to you. When you press A button, you will activate the selected command on whatever object or location the cursor is currently pointing to. The command options are as follows:

  • OPEN: Use this command to open doors, windows, cupboards, and closets. You may find items that are useful to you, or entrances to other rooms and zones.
  • GET: Use the get command to collect items once you have revealed them. Point to the item and press A button to collect them.
  • GO: Once you identify a possible entrance or passage, point to it, and press A button to travel through to whatever lies on the other side.
  • HIT: This command is used to locate secret passages between rooms or floors. Use this command on empty places along the wall to look for weak spots that might break open. You can also use hit on certain items like picture frames to possibly reveal hidden items.

Note that while you are exploring a room, it is actually possible to get attacked. A small man or woman, or a rather large beast may escape from a door or closet that you open, which will automatically scare you out of the room. While you are out in the hallway, you must defeat these people, or scroll them off the screen, before you will be permitted to open a door and return inside a room. If the attacker happens to be the large beast, you will also find that the speed of your walk through the hallway is greatly reduced. It is best to remove these attackers as quickly as possible; do not hesitate to fire your gun at them if you have any ammo.
