Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland was released for PlayStation 2 as the seventh entry in the Harvest Moon series of video games. It was a dramatic shift for the series, being the first to feature full 3D visuals. The focus on farming is significantly diminished as well, with fewer crops and less time spent building up a successful farm.

Instead, gameplay focuses on a more dire situation: The land upon which the village is built has been earmarked for the development of a new resort complex. Construction begins in exactly one year and in that time, the player must find a way to save his village. There are a total of nine ways in which this can be achieved, providing nine different endings to the story. Coincidentally, the player needs to heavily socialize with nearly all of the villagers to achieve the total number of endings, while successful farming is only significant in a handful.
