Once you have pressed your Start Button on the title screen of Namco Hometek's 1994 SNES/Sega Genesis game of Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures, you will be presented with three options: GAME START, PASSWORD, and STEREO. Use the D-Pad to move the cursor up and down, then press the B Button to confirm your choice - and if you chose the first option, the game will proceed onto the tutorial, but if you chose the second option, the game will proceed onto the password screen. Finally, if you chose the third option, the word will change to MONAURAL, but if you pick it again, it will change back to STEREO; for the Sega Genesis version, a Yamaha YM-2612 and Texas Instruments SN-76496 are monaural anyway. The tutorial also goes like this:

Pac-Man:
HI! I'M PAC-MAN.
TODAY I'LL
INTRODUCE YOU
TO MY WORLD.
MY WORLD CAN BE
TRICKY SOMETIMES,
SO I'LL NEED YOUR
HELP FINDING
THINGS,
GETTING OUT OF
TROUBLE AND
SOLVING WEIRD
MYSTERIES!
BEFORE WE START
OUR ADVENTURE,
LET'S PRACTICE
WORKING TOGETHER!
COME ON,
FOLLOW ME!

Once Pac-Man has left his house, you'll have to shoot the mailbox to make it open and a letter fall out of it; you will then have to use the Y (or C) Button in conjunction with the D-Pad to try and make Pac-Man look at the letter. Once he picks it up, you will have to shoot the "mouth" window of his house to make Pac-Jr. emerge from it, and throw a model airplane into the tree - and once you have shot it out of the tree to make it land on the ground, you will again have to use the Y (or C) Button in conjunction with the D-Pad, to try and make Pac-Man look at the airplane. Once he picks it up, you will have to shoot the windmill three times in succession to make it fly off its stand and around the garden like a shuriken; it will scare Pac-Man into running into the mailbox, which will knock him out. Once you have shot him to make him regain his consciousness (he will not die), he will say this following text to you:

I THINK
YOU'RE GETTING
THE HANG OF IT!
NOW THAT
WE'RE FRIENDS,
HERE IS
AN IMPORTANT HINT:
WHEN I'M HAPPY
I'LL PAY MORE
ATTENTION TO YOU!

Five power pellets will then appear on the tree and he will ask you to shoot one of them off; once you have done so, he will say the following text to you:

OH YEAH,
I ALMOST FORGOT!
THIS IS
A POWER PELLET.
IF I'M REALLY
IN TROUBLE,
USE THE POWER PELLET
TO TURN ME INTO
SUPER PAC-MAN.

Pinky, Inky and Clyde will then fly into view from the left and right sides of the screen causing him to go into "scared" mode; once you have shot a power pellet at him to make him transform into "Super Pac-Man" (he will not seize to death here) and he has eaten them all he will say the following text to you:

THANKS,
THAT WAS CLOSE!

Ms. Pac-Man will then open up the door of his house (which looks like himself) and beckon him to come inside; he will then say the following text to you:

MS. PAC-MAN IS
CALLING ME,
LET'S SEE
WHAT SHE WANTS.

He will then go inside his house as Ms. Pac-Man tells him that they are out of milk and Pac-Baby is still hungry, which is the premise for the first mission; it is also possible to skip the tutorial section of the game altogether by pushing Start during the opening cutscene, but if you do not, you will have to do it.
