Subterranean Animism (東方地霊殿 Touhou Chireiden?, Eastern Earth Spirit Palace) is a vertical-scrolling shooter and the eleventh official installment of the Touhou series.
A geyser has erupted out of nowhere, and from it flow out many earth spirits. The human girls see this newly-formed hot spring as an opportunity to easily stay warm throughout the winter, but the youkai find this suspicious. Six of them convince the protagonists to go and investigate the source of the eruption.
In this game, two playable characters with three long-distance partners each are available:
- Reimu Hakurei, the Shrine Maiden of Paradise, with the help of:
- Yukari Yakumo, the Youkai of Boundaries.
- Suika Ibuki, the Tiny Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, from Immaterial and Missing Power.
- Aya Shameimaru, the Traditional Reporter of Fantasy, from Phantasmagoria of Flower View.
- Marisa Kirisame, the Ordinary Magician, with the help of:
- Alice Margatroid, the Seven-Colored Puppeteer.
- Patchouli Knowledge, the Unmoving Great Library, from Embodiment of Scarlet Devil.
- Nitori Kawashiro, the Super Youkai Warhead, from Mountain of Faith.
