Pre-load buttons[edit]

The pre-load buttons.

In order to keep pages on the wiki neat and uniform, we employ certain formatting and templates to help us accomplish this. When creating a new page, please use one of the pre-load buttons located above the edit text box (e.g. click on "Guide page" to add {{Header Nav}} to the top and {{Footer Nav}} to the bottom), which will insert the needed templates and formatting for you. These templates are very handy because they include the templates that are required for each page type. If you are unsure about how to use them, or what pages to use them on, please let me know. Thanks for keeping the wiki organized! — Procyon 20:14, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

Witchaven[edit]

Thanks for bringing the guide over to StrategyWiki! I saw on the main page it mentioned that the original author had granted permission to host the guide. The page mentioned that it's a "good idea to start your own preservation archive". Have they considered [requesting archive.org archive them? -- Prod (talk) 01:08, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

I believe some of the things have been sent to archive.org, but I'm not sure if all of them have. -- VanishingWraith (talk) 02:01, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

I requested the main page be archived just now so that the StrategyWiki permission would be saved and linked it on Talk:Witchaven. Are there any other guides that need to be brought over? -- Prod (talk) 02:22, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
Parts of the Mageslayer and Abuse sections may be suitable for inclusion as well, though those aren't full walkthroughs, more item lists/cheats/general hints. -- VanishingWraith (talk) 02:40, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

I've gone through whatever content I could on the site, and brought over whatever was possible for MageSlayer and Abuse. I'll be going through Heretic/Hexen sections to see if we're missing anything, and then bring over the images for Witchaven. -- Prod (talk) 04:23, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

Thank you, that will save me a bunch of work. -- VanishingWraith (talk) 14:57, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

The Heretic/Hexen pages pointed to the Doom Wiki, so I haven't brought any of that content here. I did bring over all the images for Witchaven, and filled in Witchaven/Level 13. I think the following things are still pending:

  • [1] Intro story goes to Witchaven/Walkthrough (someone with game knowledge needed to avoid spoilers)
  • [2] Characters goes to Witchaven/Characters (someone with game knowledge needed to avoid spoilers)
  • [3] Goes to Witchaven/Gameplay. I'll try to do this page soon. It could use additional content on how the game works at a high level, this stuff is pretty detailed.

Do you feel there's anything else that needs to be done for this guide before moving on to Witchaven II? -- Prod (talk) 04:07, 17 July 2022 (UTC)

The "manual/intro" sections of the story are non-spoiler for their respective games, as they summarize things that are either printed in the manual or displayed in the intro cinematic that plays when the game is loaded. The "outro" ones summarize the ending cutscenes and should be considered spoilers. For the characters, the descriptions for Lord VerKapheron and Elizabeth can be considered to contain spoilers, Cirae-Argoth and Ikethsti should be mentioned only on the Witchaven II pages as they do not appear in the first game, and the rest are non-spoilers.
I did find that the ETTiNGRiNDER pages on enemy stats were not always completely accurate, usually because stats were changed between Witchaven and Witchaven II while it was assumed they remained the same (the pages are usually more accurate to Witchaven II in those instances). I should hopefully have my notes on that somewhere to make the needed corrections myself. I am also not sure if there's a good site for the info on the various versions/releases.
As for Heretic and Hexen, it's worth noting that the Doom Wiki largely doesn't cover Hexen II or Heretic II. The Heretic II sequence break page would probably be good to mirror somewhere, but might be out of the scope of this wiki. Perhaps there's a good speedrun-oriented site that it should be on? - VanishingWraith (talk) 16:35, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
