It is part of the Pokémon series, and was first released in North America on July 27, 1999. It was originally planned to be a Nintendo 64DD game, but due to multiple delays in releasing the Nintendo 64DD, Pokémon Snap ended up being released several months earlier on the Nintendo 64.

The sequel, New Pokémon Snap, was announced in summer 2020 for the Nintendo Switch.
