Welcome to all users! This page is where you can ask StrategyWiki-related questions to the staff and senior community figures, and they will do their best to answer. If you want to raise a topic for discussion (rather than just ask about it), please use the community issues forum instead. New issues are entered here, with the most recent at the bottom of the page. If your question does not pertain to editing StrategyWiki (e.g. asking for hints or game-specific information), please ask on the guide's talk page or on the forums.

Please review the Table of Contents to see if your issue has already been raised; also check the archives (to the right) in case it was discussed some time ago.

To facilitate ease of browsing and replying, please:

  1. Place your question at the bottom of the list.
  2. Title the question (by placing the title between equals signs: ==Title==).
  3. Sign your name and date (by adding four tildes: ~~~~).

Series logos for category page

I had a question concerning categories that have a logo on them. Is it allowed to put a logo (in my case, I wanted to upload the EA Sports Madden NFL/NHL/FIFA stylized text) on a game series page or is that only for console pages? JeffMandM (talk) 20:51, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

I believe there's a spot in the infobox for an image, so go for it! -- Prod (talk) 22:05, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

"Broken" Header Nav in Table of Contents

When I discovered that the Commodore Amiga version of the game I am currently writing about, Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo, was composed of nine levels instead of just four (like all the others), I had to edit the Table of Contents to give that version its own Walkthrough page; however, in doing so, I have somehow caused the ToC to be displayed in the Header Nav with centred text (and not after clicking "[show]" either) and after two attempts to fix it, it has not been rectified! If somebody could tell me what I have done wrong and how I can fix it, I would be most grateful - as this has never happened to me on having to edit a Table of Contents before. Namcorules (talk) 17:00, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

You can't put a comma in page links. You had "ZX, CPC and Commodore 64" in your link name, and the comma broke things. It's fine to put commas in the description of links, but not the link itself. I changed your page names to 8-bit and 16-bit, while leaving the descriptions alone. Feel free to change them if you wish, but avoid commas. Procyon 17:33, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

GraphWizExtensionDummy dot

What's the deal with this file being uploaded every time an edit is made? Did something glitch out? T.testLP(talk) 12:24, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

I updated to the latest version of mediawiki yesterday (1.25.1) and all the extensions at the same time. Looks like there's a bug in this version. I'll open a ticket with the developers about it. -- Prod (talk) 13:31, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

Twitch

Twitch has channels for tons of games, and I've added a link below all main page infoboxes to the channel for the each game. Should we keep it? -- Prod (talk) 01:28, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

It certainly sounds like a neat idea. It doesn't necessarily contribute to the guide, but some streams can provide extra strategic guidance. For popular multiplayer games, one can even see tactics in action and compare them with written advice. Definitely keep it. T.testLP(talk) 19:04, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Where is Io in ff6?

Every time I see this enemy mentioned, on any site, it never states where to find it.

So, where can it be found? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.55.98.33 (talkcontribs) .

Io may be found in Dreamscape during Cyan's nightmare, specifically in the mine section. Also, you may want to post the question on the talkpage of the associated guide, as it is more likely to attract attention of those familiar with the game in question. This allows them to both reply, and make a potential change to the guide at the same time. --Sigma 7 (talk) 01:54, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Runescape

I am playing Runescape and am in the lower section of the house on the hill. I have made it through the door with the water barrels, but the creature I find around a sharp bend in the path is spitting poison at me and I do not know how to kill it so I can move on. Can you please help me? Thank you.

Pop-ups

Several times now, when I go to SW, I see large, window-filling Flash-based pop-up advertisements. What's more, the "close" buttons on the ads don't always work (in which case I must refresh the webpage). I have seen the "Dominion" ad on the main page, and a video game ad on the sign-in page. Prod, Procyon, is there anything you can do about this? Thanks! Wjk (talk) 18:47, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We will investigate it and do our best to stop it. Procyon 23:50, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

Duplicate images

What is the process for dealing with duplicate images? A guide I'm working on right now has a few sprites that have been uploaded twice, some with better resolution than others. Oddtom (talk) 21:33, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

Choose the image which you think should be deleted (the one you wish not to keep), and add a {{delete}} tag in the description, and that will alert us that a file has been requested for removal. Thanks! Procyon 23:27, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
Got it, thanks. Though I feel like I should mention that I believe the reason for all the duplicate images is that the "upload a new version of this file" link didn't seem to be working. There were a few images that looked like new versions were uploaded, but it still displayed the original image. Uploading duplicate images separately seems to have only been a workaround to that problem. Oddtom (talk) 03:23, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
When a file is modified, it takes some time for the cache to catch up, so it would appear as if the image didn't update for a few hours. -- Prod (talk) 04:42, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
That makes sense, but you might want to put a note somewhere in the upload duplicate image form to keep this from happening elsewhere.Oddtom (talk) 00:39, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
Hmm, I think I remember fixing this a few months ago actually (purge cache on file upload). Are you still noticing it happening? -- Prod (talk) 01:58, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
Clearing the cache on file upload should solve this, but I haven't tried it myself. I was just noticing that several of the duplicate images were in replacement images files (sometimes several times) before the duplicate images were published, so that's the conclusion I came to. "Whale" skin broken

When I logged on to the site today, I discovered the "Whale" skin (which I have been using since the old "BlueCloud" one was killed off in 2012) was broken; it is now just displaying as blank white pages with Times New Roman text! Is anyone else using this skin (if anyone else does) suffering this problem, or is it just me? Namcorules (talk) 16:00, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Strange, I'll take a look into it. Thanks for letting me know! -- Prod (talk) 16:01, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
This should be fixed now, please clear your cache. -- Prod (talk) 16:06, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Ace Attorney Trial MWException Error

A few days ago, all of the Trial walkthrough pages for the Ace Attorney Series started displaying the error message "Fatal exception of type MWException" instead of the page. This happened fairly recently (Within a week or so ago) and I'm not sure what's causing it, and I'm also not quite sure where to post about this, considering that a bunch of pages are broken. Hafo (talk) 22:30, 17 July 2015 (UTC)

Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention, this is absolutely the right place to post this kind of thing. We will be looking into it immediately and try to fix it as quickly as possible. We'll keep you posted. Procyon 23:41, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing this out! There was a problem with our Scribunto extension that we use in quite a few places. It's fixed now, sorry about the inconvenience. -- Prod (talk) 01:37, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
The Pages still display the error unless another edit is saved, is there some way to fix this or should I just do an edit to the pages as I go through them? Hafo (talk) 04:43, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
