Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door/Pianta Parlor

From StrategyWiki, the video game walkthrough and strategy guide wiki

The Pianta Parlor is on the west side of town next to Westside Goods. It uses Piantas as game tokens. They can be purchased from the Pianta Changer machine for 3 coins/Pianta.

Slot Machines[edit]

GameCube version[edit]

It costs one Pianta to play. Press A button to stop a slot. Tilt Neutral control left and right to select which slot to stop. If Mario matches three symbols, Piantas will pop out for him to collect.

  • Green Piantas yield 3 Piantas.
  • Blue Stars yield 15 Piantas.
  • Yellow Sevens yield 100 Piantas.

Switch version[edit]

The slot machines in the Switch version

The slots operate very similarly to the slots in Super Mario Bros. 3. The player must stop all three reels to line up an image, and if completed will reward Piantas. There are two machines available: The right machine is the "Sweet" version and the left is the "Spicy" version. While the Sweet machine only costs 1 Pianta to play and is generally easier to win, the payout is far lower than the Spicy version (which costs 4 Piantas per play). The rewards are as follows:

Sweet
  • Don Pianta — 2 Piantas
  • POW Block — 4 Piantas
  • Mushroom — 6 Piantas
Spicy
  • Don Pianta — 6 Piantas
  • POW Block — 12 Piantas
  • Mushroom — 20 Piantas
  • Flower — 30 Piantas
  • Star — 50 Piantas

Parlor Games[edit]

These games and rewards do not appear until the respective card is collected. These cards are earned by competing the following Trouble Center requests:

Trouble name Card rewarded Game unlocked Items/Badges unlocked
Try to find me! Special Card Plane Game
Help my Daddy! Silver Card Paper Game

Plane Game[edit]

Flying through the Plane Game
Landing on the ground with some bonus panels

Mario must fly as far as possible before landing on the ground for the most Piantas. The ground has several bonus panels that can either add, subtract, or multiply the total Piantas earned. There are also a few Piantas floating in the air. The maximum distance is 600.

Paper Game[edit]

Playing the Paper Game

Mario races against a large stream of other characters across a course with fans occasionally blowing across the map. Use of Paper Mode stops Mario from being blown off and losing.

Tube Game[edit]

Playing the Tube Game

Mario races around a track in Tube Mode as fast as possible, grabbing floating Piantas on the way. He must complete the lap under three minutes, or will face a game over. Completing the lap without falling off will award a technical bonus.

Boat Game[edit]

Playing the Boat Game

Mario races two laps around a swirling lazy river-like course, dodging barrels and whirlpools along the way. The objective is to reach the end as swiftly as possible while collecting Piantas on the way. Mario receives a technical bonus for not colliding with any barrels, but is only penalized for time by striking a Whirlpool. Failure to complete two laps within two minutes results in a game over.

Prizes[edit]

Out of all prizes offered at the Pianta Parlor, only Cake Mix Cake Mix is truly exclusive. That said, the odds of enemies dropping any of the badges offered is extremely low, and purchasing them from the parlor is far easier to do. Refund Refund and Money Money Money Money are generally only found here, and not in any hidden blocks, the Lovely Howz of Badges, or held by Dazzle.
