There are many characters in Cars, many of which are playable in Arcade mode. But to unlock a character, you need to buy them from the Bonus Features shop with your points.

Playable

Lightning McQueen

A race car but you notice that his number is 95 after the year where Pixar release their first featured film, Toy Story. He is a race car sponsored by Rust-eze, He doesn't have any friends except for Mack when he was a racing car but there was a incident when Mack was going to sleep and also Lightning McQueen, The 3 gangter cars which got Lightning out of the car but Lightning wakes up without noticing in traffic and he was speeding until Sheriff stops him in his tracks but Lightning makes a mess of the old forgotten town, Radiator Springs. So he has live there for his life with Mack there also. He's the main and playable character is most races. {{{{GameHelper}}}}

Mater

A old and rusty tow-truck and he has been living in the junkyard for a while in Radiator Springs but there was a incident with Lightning McQueen and enters Radiator Springs when he mess it up, So Mater towed Lightning McQueen to the junkyard but he was in jail, Except for a people's jail, they have those yellow things on the tires so that the victim can not escape, Then Mater became best friends with Lightning McQueen because Mater knows that Lightning was a famous race car. He also appears in the mini game where you have to help out waking up the tractors while they are sleeping without getting caught with Frank, the main tractor and also a very mean that guards so that they can roadkill the victims.

Sally

A blue car that lives in Radiator Springs but she is only a blue car. She first appeared when Lightning McQueen was at court by Doc Hudson. Then later, Lightning McQueen became friends with Sally because Lightning McQueen thinks she is pretty cute and Sally took Lightning McQueen on a ride of Tailfin Pass. She is a friend of Lightning McQueen and also she appears on the race where McQueen and Sally has to race through Tailfin Pass.

Doc

Doc Hudson was a big blue car and he was also known as famous for being as Fabulous Hudson Hornet when he win three piston cup races, and his Hudson Hornet career ended when he got into a terrible crash when at the final lap of the 1954 race that makes the Hudson Hornet out of the race and nearly killing him, He first appeared at court, He acts as a judge for Radiator Springs but Lightning McQueen was accused. Also, he talks about Fabulous Hudson Hornet when Lightning McQueen got into Doc's doctor house.
