Enemies

Enemy Location Notes
Bat caves
Black Bat towns
Bone Dragon Easy to hit since they're stationary, however their fireballs are difficult to avoid as they always come in pairs and you are usually moving around to avoid other enemies, so you can use your shield.
Dark Skeleton
Eyeball
Fire Skeleton
Fishman bridges They jump out of the water and fire at you. Easy enough to avoid from a distance, but they can catch you by surprise and knock you into a pit if they hit you from underneath.
Gargoyle
Ghost
Hand graveyards Stationary and they don't have projeticle attacks. Jump over them or kneel and whip.
Harpy
Hawk
Knight Patrols a specific area, occasionally dashing forward. Only slightly stronger than skeletons, and if you're on a different platform as them, they can't hit you.
Lizardman
Man Eater A plant that shoots fireballs at you. Get in range, whip a few times, and pause to deflect its fireball if it manages to live long enough to shoot.
Medusa Head
Mudman marshes
Mummy
Skeleton everywhere
Skeleton Head
Skeleton Knight mansions
Slime
Snake marshes
Spider Crawls down a web and throws a spiderweb at you, then retracts and moves. Whip if you can, but it's often best to just continue on and get them off screen.
Wildcat
Werewolf One of the first enemies you'll encounter, the werewolves aren't particulalry strong, but they are quick and can jump. Hit them when they land, and run under them if they get too close.
Zombie towns In every town the citizens are replaced with zombies at night. Not particularly powerful and a good source of hearts. If you don't want to fight, just find a small ledge and wait for daybreak.

Bosses

Death

File:Castlevania SQ enemy-death.gif

Despite being the first and hardest boss of the game, Death is incredibly easy. He floats in the air and has two main attacks: throws small sickles at you and slashes you with his scythe. He'll slowly float towards you and then start slashes; sickles will start appearing as soon as you enter the room.

To defeat him, simply go up to him and start whipping as rapidly as possible. Don't bother with other weapons, and they either can't hit him or won't do enough damage. When he gets too close run under him to an new spot and repeat until he dies.

Death is actually an optional boss, though you should fight him as it gets you the powerful Gold Dagger. If you don't want to fight him, simply ignore him and go through the door on the right to get to the orb. Regardless of whether or not you defeat him, Death is always back when you enter the room.

Carmilla

File:Castlevania SQ enemy-carmilla.gif

The easiest boss in the game, and possibly one of the easiest bosses in the series, as long as you have Dracula's Rib equipped. Carmilla, or more specifically her mask, hovers in midair, out of reach. Her main attack is to drop bloody tears, which explode into a multi-directional burst when they hit the ground. However, as long as you are using the Rib and remain stationary when she's crying, you can't be hit. Her other attack is to swoop around the room in a loop (she often does this several times in a row). Stand back just far enough that she can't hit you when she moves, remain shielded when she crying, and then when she moves, jump and hit her with the Flame Whip. It'll take at little while as she as a decent amount of life, but you're practically invulnerable during the fight.

While you can ignore Carmilla and simply go into the orb room, as you did with Death, you do need to kill her at least once. The Magic Cross is needed to get into Dracula's Castle and can only be retrieved from her.

Most sources from when the game was first released labeled her the Weeping Mask or Crying Mask, however she is actually Carmilla, who would reappear in Dracula X: Rondo of Blood and Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (which mistranslated her name as Camilla).

Dracula

File:Castlevania SQ enemy-dracula.gif

The source of Simon's problems, and the last boss of the game. By taking the five parts to his castle, Simon revives the Count so that he can finish him off and break the curse. The fight is either incredibly hard or ridiculously easy, depending on whether or not you wait for Dracula to start attacking.

For the easy way out, simply start throwing Sacred Flames at Dracula's feet as soon as you regain control. Just keep throwing them, one after another, and Dracula won't even be able to move.

If you want the real fight, simply wait for him to start attacking. He'll start orbiting the room so rapidly that multiple images of him will appear, while throwing rather large spinning fireballs at you. The best place to be is in the very center, on the altar where Dracula initially appears. You'll be able to hit the Count, as well as destroy his fireballs. The Diamond weapon can help a bit, as it'll bounce around the room and hit the Count several times.

However you go about it, once you defeat Dracula, you'll see one of three endings, depending on your game time.
