SonSon / Son Goku[edit]

You take control of SonSon (as he is referred to in the instruction manual) or Son Goku (as he is referred to in the game) throughout his mission to rescue his friends who have been captured by a mysterious giant demon. He willhave to trabel through seven regions in order to complete his journey. Equipped with his magic staff, you must battle through many enemies and challengers.

SonSon has a health meter which is displayed at the top of the screen. SonSon loses health whenever he makes contact with an enemy. He can regain health by finding both big and little hearts. If SonSon's health meter is depleted, the game will end unless you purchased an item from the shop which allows you to continue. SonSon begins the game with 14 bars in his health meter. He can obtain 2 more for every Yashichi that he either finds or purchases, up to a maximum of 24 bars.

SonSon is a very good jumper. He can leap up, or to the side in either direction. If you hold the direction pad up while jumping, he will jump a little higher. You can use this added boost in height to reachvarious platforms, or jump across gaps that would be impossible for SonSon to survive otherwise. SonSon begins the game with 12 bars in his magic meter. The meter will grow by 2 bars when you reach 20,000 points, and then by 2 more bars for every 100,000 points you earn.

SonSon begins the game with his trusted magic staff, but you will be able to buy stronger staffs from various people throughout the game. In addition to using his staff, SonSon is capable of casting magic, provided he has purchased spells at a shop, and has enough magic points to use them. For example, one of his spells creates a bouncing peach, while another creates three particles which rotate around him like a shield.

Friends[edit]

Cho Hakkai Sagojo
SonSon II sprite Hatskai.png
Cho Hakkai is one of the companions in "Journey to the West". He often gets himself and his companions into trouble through his laziness, gluttony, and propensity for lusting after pretty women. He is jealous of Sun Wukong and always tries to bring him down. He is frequently referred to as an "idiot" throughout the journey.

Sagojo is known to be the most obedient, logical, and polite of the three disciples, and always takes care of his master, seldom engaging in the bickering of his fellow disciples. He serves as the peacekeeper of the group mediating between the others. He is also the person whom Sanzo Hosji consults when faced with difficult decisions.
Sanzo Hoshi Shop keeper

Sanzo Hoshi is actually the main character in the "Journey to the West" story, on which this game is based. He sets off for Dahila kingdom (ancient India) to retrieve original Buddhist scriptures for China. Although he is helpless in defending himself, he finds powerful disciples who aid and protect him on his journey.

The shop keeper is not a character in the story, but keep an eye out for her throughout every stage. Speak to her to view what she has for sale, but make your purchase selections wisely, as her prices are expensive, and Zenny is not in huge supply throughout the game.
