The TIE Defender is most powerful craft in the game, made only second with the release of the expansion packs. The normal configuration has lasers, ion cannons, warheads and a tractor beam.

The TIE Defender combat missions are only available once they are introduced in the main campaign, or if you have the Collector's Series CD.

Custom Dogfight

Primary Goals
  • Destroy at least one Novice X-Wing
  • Destroy at least one Novice Y-Wing
  • Destroy at least one Novice A-Wing
  • Destroy at least one Novice B-Wing
Secondary Goals
  • Destroy at least one of each type of fighter for each skill level
Bonus Goals
  • Destroy all fighters.
  • Destroy container Challenge.

This is a custom dogfight mission. The primary objective is to simply destroy the novice level of each craft (4 kills), and the secondary to destroy each skill level of the crafts (20 kills). The bonus objective requires destroying all craft - 25 fighters with 9 waves, totalling 225 kills (a marathon effort.)

The rules are simple:

  • Inspecting a container causes the novice skill level of a pilot to arrive.
  • Destroying a ship causes the next higher skill level of a pilot to arrive.
  • Attacking a container causes all skill levels of a ship to arrive.
  • Destroying a container causes ships of that type to disengage.

It is your decision to focus on one group of fighters, or to simply have them all arrive at once. However, if there are enough fighters deployed, some of them will attack the reload craft, leaving you without the ability to resupply missiles.

Dealing with the non-challenging craft is simple by adding laser and tractor beam recharge ( F8  and  F10 ). With the tractor beam, you can paralize the A-Wings that fly all over the place, and the other less-maneuverable craft are also destroyed easily.

Tractor Beam

Corellian Transport Lin is parked at the base, but will start a hyperspace jump within a few seconds. It's weakness is that's its laser turret is exposed - on approach, press  ,  until you select it's laser turret, and fire two warheads. Destoying the turret allows you to disable the craft more easily.

Corellian Transport Ko is launched after 90 seconds. It will also leave quickly, but will fly in a circle before activating hyperspace. As with Lin, you can fire a warhead as you approach (no further than 2.50) at the laser turret, and can use the tractor beam to make it harder for it to escape. When it is attacked, Corellian Transport Kaar will prepare to launch.

Corellian Transport Kaar will launch 50 seconds after Ko is attacked. It will try a quick break, but will also evade enemy fire if necessary. Fire your remaining warheads at the transport, and disable it.

After dealing with the transports, complete the remaining objectives. Priority should be given to Shuttle Poltroon, which will try to repair disabled craft, and depart after completing the repairs. This is followed by B-Wing Scarlet 4, which is present for about 1 minute.

When ISD Glory arrives, other ships will depart. They can be safely ignored if they are not part of the mission objective.

Inspect and Disable

  • Destroy Nav Buoys B-52 and B-53.

In this mission, there are rebel fighters already in the area. Their initial attack should be avoided, but that's the most threat they can provide.

Your main objective is to inspect craft before they depart. While you can attack the fighters if they are giving trouble, you should look for uninspected craft after each kill.

Transport Juble 2 is carring contraband. If inspected, a transport will arrive to disable the ship.

On hard difficulty, Corvette Slasher will arrive after Juble 2 is captured. If destroyed, four replacements will also arrive.

Disable and Capture

The flight leaver will pick one of the two escort carriers. Determine which one it is attacking ( Z  to get threat display), and use your two space bombs on the same target.

It is not possible to disable both carriers (without cheating), as the other will leave before you can strip the shields.
