This is the fourth area in UNDERTALE. If you are reading this and you have not completed the other areas or guides first, I suggest you don't read ahead. Go back to whichever guide you are on and stop reading ahead.

Continuing From Waterfall

If you remember the Waterfall guide, we stopped in Hotland. You should be at the save star. It's in the room after the one you finished Undyne's chase in. The royal guards at the top aren't important. They also don't realize you are a human. Don't let them realize that.

Continue to the right, and there is a lab, which the save point describes (if you save, which you should). Go in. It's really dark in here, so continue going to the right. After getting to one end of the lab-area (???), a dinosaur monster walks out of a door near a conveyor belt. The lights turn on and she walks towards you before realizing that you're there. She freaks out before explaining she wants to help you, and that her name is Alphys. She then remembers she made a robot named Mettaton, and that he has anti human features. Uh oh. She says you probably won't see him, before the ground shakes. It shakes more and more before Alphys says "Oh no."

Oh no.

Mettaton

You hear a odd voice byte and the text "OHHH YES!" A robot will appear through a hole in Alphys's wall. Yep, that's Mettaton. He's a freaking rectangle. ON WHEELS. With STEROIDS. Anyways, he says Welcome to his quiz show and says that there is one rule. "ANSWER CORRECTLY..."

"...OR DIE!"

He then starts the quiz show, which is relatively easy. Alphys gives you the answer, and I have the list of answers. Here it is (note: the answers are in Bold text)

After enough questions are asked, he will ask a question about Mew Mew Kissy Cutie (gross). Alphys will answer for you before realizing that Mettaton saw her answer. Mettaton will ask who Alphys has a crush on. If anything, choose Undyne. Her reaction is the funniest. After a few words, Mettaton flies off and Alphys says, "Well that was certainly something."

Dimensional Boxes but PORTABLE

So, continue like that never happened (of course, as you can tell by the title of this section, Alphys stops you, upgrades your phone, and gives you two Dimensional Boxes, one of which has all of your stuff in it) and proceed to enter through the eastern exit.

Upon exiting, Alphys proceeds to update her status a lot of times while you are walking. Most of it is junk. Ignore and continue by going to the next room. The next room is a bunch of conveyor belts that take you forward. Spare any enemies you encounter and continue until you reach the “Magma Chamber”, which will have a save star named Magma Chamber. Figures.

This room has a ton of vents that launch you over to different islands. At the southeast end of the room, there will be a path leading down to a room with a rapidly-switching vent, and a Burnt Pan on the left. You have to step on the vent when it changes to left so you can get the Burnt Pan. This item, unlike any other, heals you for 1 HP every turn in battle, so finally, not only are you getting it for completion, but also, for healing. How nice! Step onto the conveyor belt to leave the area. Go to the northern path.

Alphys Guides You

So when you reach the room at the north of the Magma Chamber, Alphys will tell you about the lasers ahead. Don’t move through the blue ones (which are moving) and move through the orange ones (which aren’t moving). How ironic. This should be easy, unless you have issues with quick-time reaction puzzles.

In the next room, there are two puzzles on the left and right, where you have to shoot the opposing ship. There is a laser blocking the left side, which Alphys proceeds to remove. Here are the combinations for both puzzles:

  • For the Left Puzzle: Move the boxes left, down, then left, and then shoot twice
  • For the Right Puzzle: Move the boxes up, then right, then shoot twice

Once both puzzles are complete, the northern door opens up. Proceed.

Cooking With A Killer Robot

The next room is a short pathway with vents that blast you all the way to this really weird looking path. Follow the path and you end up in a dark room. Alphys calls you and turns on the lights before saying "Oh no."

Yep. That's right. You're in ANOTHER quiz show by everyone's favorite murder bot. He says that you are baking a cake, and to go gather ingredients. This should be easy, however, because all the ingredients are in sight. Grab them, then interact with the counter to start. Wait, Mettaton says there's one last ingredient. Your Soul ...

Uh oh.

Luckily, Alphys stops the mass carnage before it happens. She suggests Mettaton use a vegan ingredient instead (which he is ok with, apparently) and Mettaton says there's one on that counter over there. Huh. That was easy. Go over to the counter and the counter will rapidly grow taller, while Mettaton will say that you have to get the ingredient in less than a minute. Luckily, Alphys has a plan (Said plan being that she installed a jet pack on your phone. How does THAT work?). To get to the top, dodge all of Mettaton's attacks on the way up, and he will declare he has baked the cake ahead of time, letting you pass. This robot...

Continue to the right and you will see a large view of the CORE. Alphys tells you not to worry, but to be honest, Mettaton may not be the hardest, but he's certainly the most annoying. So worry if you want, remember, this is a strategy guide. You wouldn't be reading this if you didn't want a plan on how to beat the game.

Second Floor

Continue again to the right and go up the elevator. If you want, you can call Papyrus to hear him make a joke about spaghetti. When you reach the second floor, head to the left. In the next room, Sans is selling hotdogs. To be honest, the hot dogs aren't that bad as healing items (and attempting to buy 2 gives you a Hot Cat, which is a good healing item in general), but if you want to save your money for the healing items at MTT Resort (which, by the way, are really good for Mettaton's fight), then don't buy the hotdogs. If you couldn't care less about the healing items or have a full inventory, talk to Sans and buy some hotdogs. When your inventory is full, keep talking to him to have him stack hotdogs on your head. Funny, but not important to the story whatsoever.

The next room features a four-way intersection. Where's the northern path? It's invisible, and it leads to an easter egg miniboss. If you are playing this on October 10th, wait until 8:00 (or just straight up go in there at any time on the Switch) and interact with the sign to start the most hilarious miniboss yet!

The secret entrance to the Art room where you encounter So Sorry

So Sorry (OPTIONAL)

So Sorry is a relatively easy miniboss (compared to the others) and frankly, is really only good for the money it gives. However, killing him leads to the Pacifist Route you are doing being aborted and you having to reload from your last save point. His attacks are:

  • Throwing pieces of crumpled up paper
  • Swinging his tail back and forth
    • This is similar to Asgore's trident attack in which he does the same thing.
    • He does both aforementioned attacks at the same time around turn 7 or 8
  • He draws Doodlebogs, which throw incoherent doodles at you

Best way to end the battle is to keep surviving for 8 turns. If any Doodlebogs appear, use the Draw act and they immediately disappear. If you want gold, attack him for 8-10 turns and then spare him, and you will get 372G at most. When he disappears, go back down to the intersection, go down the southern path, and pick up the Apron (which is yet another item that heals you in battle. Ka-ching!) and then go back to the intersection and go right.

Second Floor (Continued)

The next room involves quick-time reactions from you, the player. You have to hit the buttons while riding on the conveyor belts. Of course, Alphys calls you right as your about to hit the last button, therefore throwing off your rhythm. She then deactivates it herself and laughs sheepishly. Continue. The next room consists of an annoying puzzle in which you must use the steam vents to get across. You must go in this order: Left, Down, Down, Left, Up, Down, Up. Up, Left. Once you get through that, go through the next room only to be confronted by the Royal Guards.

Royal Guards

The Royal Guards aren't that hard to beat. And their attacks are even easier. First, clean the second Royal Guard's armor, then interact with the green projectile 5 times on the bullet board. After that, 02 will take his armor off, genuinely disturbing you and also, by extent, making 01's attacks easier to dodge, as they become really shaky. Then, use the Whisper act on 01, and a cutscene will play. After the cutscene, use the Spare option and you win! You also get 100 gold (per guard).

News Report

The next room you encounter is the most annoying one. The news report (insert dramatic sound effect). It consists of a quick time puzzle where you must defuse all of the bombs placed by Mettaton. Of course, there is a cutscene in the beginning of the room where he asks you to find something to report on. No matter what you choose, they all turn into bombs, and they all start moving randomly around the map to make sure you can't get to them. If you want to make the challenge easier, go for the present first, then continue from there. Do NOT go for the glass of water bomb, because it is extremely hard to get to, and it also moves around way faster than the other bombs. Once you make it through the other bombs, Alphys will use EMP fields to trap the water in the middle. Defuse it, and Mettaton will say that you defused it. Yay!

Then, he says it will explode in two seconds instead of two minutes. Of course, just like with the cooking show, Alphys saves you at the last second. After a slightly awkward cutscene, Alphys will get off the phone with you and allow you to continue, and of course, you should continue.

Floor 3

In the next room, there is an elevator leading to the 3rd floor. Go into the elevator, and then go to the next room. In the first room, there is Muffet (a weird spider girl based off of a very well known nursery rhyme) selling Spider Donuts and Spider Cider for a whopping 9999G. Now, if you didn't save the Spider Donut from earlier, you could grind the 9999G needed to buy the donut, but that is extremely time consuming and not worth it. If you do end up buying it, Muffet's later fight is prevented entirely (which is very cool because her fight is actually really hard). If you have a Spider Donut (or five), you can ignore her and continue.

File:Spider Bake Sale location Hotland.png
This is the Spider Bake Sale. Note that Muffet will only be absent after her fight or after you get through her area.

The next puzzle is the Reactivated Door Puzzle. Alphys will call you when you enter, telling you about the puzzle, and then proceeding to hang up. The northern puzzle is the hardest, but if you want the quickest solution, it is Right, Up, Right, Down x2, Right, Right/Up, Up/Right, Up x2, Right and Up.

Getting to the other puzzle requires getting through another puzzle, which the easiest solution is left, then right. Once you get to the southern puzzle, the solution for it is Right, Up, Right, Down x2, Right x2, Down, Left, and Down.

After getting through all the puzzles, enter through the door to go to the Spider Entrance. Save here, then enter the room for Muffet to attack you.

Muffet

If you bought a 9999G item, she will not attack you. If not, then use the Spider Cider/Spider Donut from earlier to immediately end the fight. If not, oh boy, you're gonna have a bad time. Muffet uses donuts, croissants, and spiders to attack. More than a few times throughout the fight, she will send her pet after you (it's basically a giant cupcake with teeth). After the third time, she will receive a telegram, and offer to spare you. If you manage to make it through the full fight, good job! If you use the Donut, that's also fine. Continue to the right for something worse than Muffet.

The Musical

The title says it all. In the next room, Mettaton traps you in a Final Fantasy themed musical based on Undertale! How horrifying. Afterwards, he drops you into a puzzle, actually the same one that you saw in Snowdin (which, humorously enough, did not work for Papyrus). He gives you 30 seconds to speedrun through the puzzle, before he burns you. thumb|left|The solution.
