Mission map.

There was no love to be found on Venus. Only vengeance. We were there to take back the relic we lost on Mars. But it was so much more to all of us. This was a time for us to strike back for the countless friends we've lost during the savage attack on the Moon. As we dropped through the churning atmosphere, the bolts of lightning and the putrid green clouds set the stage for what lay ahead. We were about to launch the biggest invasion since Normandy. We weren't taking any chances, and we weren't taking any prisoners.

The CCA outpost is protected on all sides by a natural terrain barrier, and the entrance to the outpost is heavily guarded by CCA units and gun towers. You may need to find a way over this barrier to sneak into the base unnoticed.

MISSION OBJECTIVES

  • Rendezvous with our forces.
  • Destroy the Soviet Radar Array.

ENGINEERING REPORT: You have been issued a Wolverine rocket tank outfitted with both Shadower and Thermal Hornet missiles. To launch missiles, you must hold down the fire button until the missile has acquired a lock. Once a lock is established, release the fire button to launch the missile at the target.

Walkthrough[edit]

Engaging two flankers close to mission start.

You'll start in a Wolverine rocket tank, and along with you is a Razor, a Grizzly, two Badgers, and an Armory. Though you start in the Wolverine, it is recommended you switch vehicles with the Grizzly. Once you have switched vehicles, have your entire group follow you to Commander Eldrige at Nav Beacon 1. There will be a geyser there for you to set the armory up at. Choose one of the two passes to get to Nav Beacon 1, destroying a pair of Flankers on the way, and set up your armory and badgers at Eldrige's position. Position your other units close to the entrance of the CCA base - you will need them there after you destroy the radar.

Commander, we'll never make it past those gun towers in one piece. Collins was right. We'll have to find another way into that outpost. The front door's locked up tight!

There are two routes to destroy the target radar array in the middle of the CCA base. The intended method first involves drawing fire from the two gun towers at Nav Beacon 2. This triggers some dialogue from Razor 1, commenting that it's not possible to get past the gun towers - the front door is locked up tight. Triggering this dialogue is necessary for the second step to happen.

After a short while, Razor 1 will call you and comment that he put a new nav beacon at an adjacent mountain, and then eject into the base. The idea is to press Ctrl + B, which deliberately destroys your vehicle, but also can gain you an extremely high jump. If angled correctly, you can use this momentum to fling yourself into the enemy base, where several unmanned CCA vehicles are waiting for you.

The layout of the CCA base.

Hop into one and begin your rampage. Start by killing all the pilots that spawn in front of the nearby cafeteria. Ignore the unmanned vehicles but kill the pilots as they try to man them - that way, if your stolen vehicle takes too much damage, you can always steal a second (and, amusingly, watch as the enemy steals back a vehicle with no ammunition and low health). The infantry that spawn from the cafeteria are triggered by a script; the cafeteria does not spawn any additional units beyond this initial wave.

There are also a number of health and ammo pickups in the Soviet base you can use to replenish your supplies if you run low. These, coupled with the numerous unmanned CCA vehicles, should be more than enough for you to shut down the bulk of the CCA's forces in the radar base. The tower itself is protected by a single Pak turret - taking it out shouldn't be a problem, and even should you fail on your first attempt, there are other vehicles you can take to try again. Your exit strategy will either be to disable the lightning power plant tucked behind the gun towers, or eject out of the base the way you came in.

The CCA won't mind too much if you borrow one of their tanks.

Alternate method: Destroying the CCA gun towers is difficult, but possible. Doing so however will trip the alarm and prompt a number of enemy pilots to spawn and start manning their vehicles. The same applies if you somehow manage to destroy the lightning power plant behind the gun towers.

With the radar array destroyed, you'll finally get some reinforcements in the form of the Recycler Utah and a Unit Factory. However, they spawn extremely close to the CCA base, and may get harassed by Flankers immediately upon spawning. This is why you positioned most of your force just outside the CCA base earlier. Protect the Recycler - losing it will fail the mission.

Armed with the proper materials to build a base, set up your recycler, armory, and unit factory, and begin building an army to take on the Russians. Their offensive can be crippled fairly quickly by disabling their scavengers, but be careful - their base is armed with a few gun towers of their own. Fortunately, with the Unit Factory, you can now build Howitzers to shell the gun towers from well outside their effective range. Longbows alone can whittle down the enemy base into nothing, provided you keep your force resupplied.

Destroy the CCA recycler to complete the mission.
