Backhoes are small and versatile vehicles equipped with a forward-facing shovel like a wheel loader and an excavator bucket at the rear. It pays for this versatility, however, by being subpar at both jobs. The shovel in particular cannot dig into the ground like the wheel loader can, and thus makes it extremely difficult to scoop flat terrain with.
The excavator bucket is far more useful, but has the problem of both very short reach and very small capacity. While it can act as a crane, its poor reach prevents it from being particularly useful as one.
Once you acquire an excavator and a wheel loader, expect the backhoe to become obsolete.
Official Description: Compact, versatile and therefore the ideal machine for small and medium-sized construction sites. The shovel can be used to load bulk materials. Smaller earthworks can be carried out as well with the excavator bucket at the rear. The crane function also makes it possible to attach loads of weight class A to the bucket and position them elsewhere. Tip: Switch between driving mode and function mode by selecting it from the context menu.
