Point Blank start screen.png

Once you have inserted your coin(s) into the cabinet of Namco's 1994 first-person shooter arcade game, Point Blank, the game shall proceed to the start screen shown above, which explains the basic rules; the players will lose one life every time they fail to meet a stage's quota, or shoot an incorrect target such as a bomb, a civilian, or (in a two-player game) a target that's of the other player's colour (1P must avoid shooting blue targets, while 2P must avoid shooting red ones). As you can see from the image above, the word "other" is also misspelled as "ather" on this screen due to bad Japanese translation.

Point Blank mode selection screen.png

Once you've pushed either Start Button, the game will proceed to the mode selection screen shown above, where you will have twenty seconds to select either Training Mode, Beginner Mode, Expert Mode or Very Hard Mode by aiming the lightgun at the mode that you want to play, then firing a shot at it to confirm your choice (in MAME, the virtual lightguns do not have to be calibrated like they did in both Golly! Ghost! games, both Steel Gunners and Lucky & Wild); Training Mode only has four stages while Beginner, Expert and Very Hard Mode all have sixteen stages each, so if you're a novice it's advisable to start on Training Mode and work your way up from there. The game will then proceed to your chosen mode's stage selection screen where you'll have ten seconds to select one of four stages from it (but remember that in Training Mode, there are only four stages!) by aiming the lightgun at the stage that you want to play then firing a shot at it to confirm your choice - and the objective of the chosen stage shall then be displayed on the screen. Once you've cleared the fourth, eighth, and twelfth stages in Beginner, Expert, or Very Hard mode, the next four stages of that mode shall become selectable for play.
